Leg Pit

by Marinka on August 31, 2011

We are back to civilization. Well, NYC. I am so happy to have electricity and running water. But instead of telling you about my euphoria, I will share a recent conversation that I had with my 10 year old son, Young Ladrinka.

“My leg pit itches.”

“What?”

“My leg pit is itchy.”

“Leg pit?”

“Yeah.”

“What’s a leg pit?”

“Right here.”

“That area is called behind your knee.”

“Why? Leg pit is faster to say.”

“Yes, fast is the word that I was looking for to describe this conversation.”

What I Did On My Summer Vacation

by Marinka on August 30, 2011

My summer vacation was a lot of fun. I spent time with my family upstate. We were in a house in the Catskills. There was a lot of fresh air and mountains.

We played outside and went for walks. We saw many deer eating apples from the apple tree and we saw a teenage bear, too! You never see things like that in NYC. It was great!

We did not have a TV in the Catskills, so we read a lot of books. I like reading! It’s fun and you learn a lot of things.

Then there was a big hurricane and we lost electricity. That wasn’t fun and I learned that I didn’t like it.

Here is a list of things that we couldn’t do because we didn’t have electricity.

1. Turn on the light
2. Turn on the electric stove
3. Turn on the oven
4. Turn on the coffeemaker
5. Turn on the toaster
6. Turn on the microwave
7. Take a shower
8. Charge our cell phones
9. Charge our computers
10. Charge our air card for WiFi
11. Operate the electric chair

I learned that I really liked electricity. A lot. As a matter of fact I love it. Marinka + Electricity 4Eva

I don’t know why people waited so long to invent it. Probably because they had to go to sleep at 8pm when it got dark and they couldn’t make coffee in the morning so they were tired and cranky. I know I was!

I have a new understanding and appreciation of history.

I asked Husbandrinka, “ Who is the person who invented electricity, Thomas Edison?” I also wanted to know why there aren’t more bridges dedicated to that fine man and why his picture isn’t more prominently displayed. Like on the American flag, for example.

“No,” Husbandrinka said. “Thomas Edison commercialized electricity, but it existed before him. Even the ancient Greeks had the concept.”

He looks unsure. This is where Wikipedia would come in super handy. And then he tells me that he thinks Ben Franklin actually invented it.
“Fantastic!” I tell him. “Let’s go fly a kite and reinvent it.”
Is that right? Or do we need to shoot an arrow through an apple on top of someone’s head?

History is so confusing.
And I haven’t had a hot cup of coffee in ages.
So, in conclusion, I had fun on my summer vacation.

August 29, 2011

So the short story is that Hurricane Irene came and took away our power and my will to live. The good news is that we are on vacation at my parents’ dacha in the Catskills and every one is safe. The bad news is that we have no electricity and also for reasons that I […]

I am still on vacation, but I am always working. It’s just that I’m working slowly and the posts aren’t ready yet. Here’s a preview of what’s to come: * Husbandrinka poisoned me! The investigation is still ongoing (by which I mean that I’m trying to get him to confess) but I should have my […]

Thank you everyone for your input about the back cover of the book. Your advice has been very important and it’s getting us closer to the best Nicki’s ass can ever be. Peajaye did another work up of it and after seeing it I am confident that I will never have another olive again. So […]

“Can we come in? Daddy and I want to talk to you.” “Whatever.” “It’s about the way you behaved when we were playing tennis this morning.” “How I behaved?” “Yes. We were all just having fun, rallying the ball back and forth and you insisted that we play a match.” “Because I like to play […]

Vacation

August 21, 2011

We are on vacation for two weeks, at my parents’ weekend house in the Catskills. Just me, the kids and Husbandrinka. And Nicki. This is the first year in recent memory that we are not having a beach vacation– usually we head out to Block Island, but last year’s ferry ride (and the economy) cured […]
