Bad News/Good News

by Marinka on January 15, 2011

Well, the bad news is that I decided to try something new for the New Year, and it’s depression-lite with two side orders of stress and exhaustion.  I figure  it has been working so well for others, why shouldn’t I give it a go?

But as you know, I’m a glass half-full kind of gal  (and not just because I already drank the other half of the glass) with a perky, sunny personality,  so this being down in the dumps thing  is taking a bit more effort than I would have liked.

I’m sure I’ll get a hang of it eventually, but until then, I’ve asked some of my favorite writers to pitch in with the funny here.

Which is great news for you.  Because while I wallow, you get to enjoy maybe new-to-you writers, laugh and thank your lucky stars that I’m in a funk.  Because, apparently, you’re a schandefreudeist.

I always suspected it, by the way.  Nice.

I’ll still be posting, of course, because I can’t resist the sound of my own voice, but my rantings will be interspersed with some other really talented writers.

And I’m asking you to support them.  Because right now they’re my lifeline.

Here are the guest posts that you may have missed this week.   I have the best friends.  Thank you.

Vicki‘s wrote about Sarah Palin and Jews! (Spoiler alert! No, Sarah’s not converting. Yet.)

Ann did a quiz that you don’t even have to study for!

Why is “the Jews” an evergreen topic?

Should not we all take a break?

I love that word “schandefreude.” It’s good to wallow for a season, it gives one depth (and is good for the pores if you use the dead sea mud.) Enjoy it, learn from it and then entertain us with it. That’s right, I’m a schadenfreude! Seriously, things in this world suck. I hope you feel better soon. ♥

oh, and good news! it could just be peri-menopause! all you need to do is take bio-identical hormones and you will be your bright and shiny 35 yo self again. 😉

I feel you on the depression-lite. It’s been my daily mode-de-vivre for the past year (I have no idea if that’s a real French phrase or not – I made it up). Here’s hoping yours is brief. Sleep deeply and mosey. Feel better…

I’m with you: currently consuming wallowing lite with a side of ho-hum and a hand-wringing chaser. I actually find that writing helps a LOT. But, hells no, not the kind of writing I would ever put up on my blog. Mostly I’ve been writing letters I will never send. A journal might seem a more sane choice, but I want to address these musings to someone, you know? It really is working, so–not that you asked for any advice–maybe it could work for you… Anyway, worth a thought.

I send not a hug, but whatever you like better than being hugged that will actually make you feel momentarily loved.

Can I tell you now, a year late, I’m ashamed to say, that you made me laugh when I hadn’t realized how long it had been. Funny women rule the world.

You, Queen of shake shake, Wendi Aarons, Ann Imig, Ann Lefler, OHMommy, Yuliya, you don’t know how you carried me last year.

I began blogging because I wanted to change someone’s world for the better, just in the littlest bit, like you have done for me.

This is a true story. Again, not a suck up to Marinka comment.

I don’t know how to suck up.

I hope you’re better.

And you have the best of friends, because you are so very kind.

True story, too.

XO

Apparently, this coming Monday is the most depressing day of the year. Because the holidays are behind us, our VISA bills have arrived in the mail, we’re dealing with the 15 pounds we gained eating cookies 24 hours a day, the WEATHER… the dreadful weather… and non-stop sicknesses. So, I see it like this: after Monday, things are going to look UP for all of us. I’m sorry you’re down, but if it makes you feel any better, so am I. You should come to Florida with me in two weeks!
Looking forward to reading more fabulous posts from awesome bloggers. 🙂
xoxo, Marinka!

I will tell you one thing. If I wasn’t depressed about our country before, after seeing that horrific clip of a toddler’s eyebrow waxing I feel physically ill.

That is munchausen by proxy with a huge side of narcissism plus way too many other horrible condiments to identify.

In other news…hugs.

Funk away (and that other thing too. I hear that’s supposed to be good for depression-lite).

I’m sorry to hear you’re in a funk. Lite or otherwise, they can totally suck. 🙁 Hope you get to bouncing around as your normal self soon. Love the guest posters!

Even at your worst, you’re funnier than most of the people out there. As somebody who has moods like a rollercoaster, i can assure you that “this too shall pass”. I’m also a glass half full type of person and still, my moods rule the day. See ya! Personally, i think a little wallowing is good for a person!

Being in a funk sucks, but you just keep filling that glass and drinking and you’re bound to come around. We’ll still be here reading.

Especially when such a stellar line-up is pinch-hitting for you.

Poor Marinka. You are still the funniest to me.

Eugh though – I seem to be trying the same. It’s horrible. And the stupid thing is that I feel most awful for having no inspiration for blogging. Here’s hoping we both feel better soon.

I hope things start to look up for you soon; this time of year tends to do it to me, too. I look forward to reading all the new writers you’ll soon showcase and am sending great big *HUGS* your way.
