Cannibal Farm

by Marinka on May 18, 2011

The other night Young Ladrinka was driving me crazy at dinner.

I made delicious and artery-clogging chicken parmesian and he kept saying I don’t want to finish it! and when I asked why not? (which is the first hint that I’ve failed at this parenting thing, because what kind of answer could I possibly expect?!) he’d say things like I’ll be too full for ice cream.

At some point, I left the dining room to go look at my nose in the mirror or something and that’s when I overheard this conversation.

Daughter, 12: You should really eat it. That chicken died for you.

Son, 9: So? I didn’t ask it to die.

Daughter: How would you feel, if you were on a cannibal farm, and someone didn’t want to eat you?

Son: Why would someone eat me?

Daughter: Because they’re cannibals and you’re dead.

Son: If I’m dead, I don’t care what they do with me.

Daughter: But then it’s a waste.

Son: Wait, what are cannibals?

Daughter: People who eat humans.

Son: I’m full.

Haha! Best conversation EVER. I love hearing my boys talk to each other. I hide in the other room trying not to laugh out loud!

Remind me never to come to your house for dinner – your daughter scares me! LOL

That poor chicken. But what about the tomatoes?

Your daughter, I think, will do well as a therapist. Or a CIA agent. Or a district attorney. Something where she asks a lot of questions.

So he will pretty much be a vegetarian from now on. Perfect!

I sure hope people would want to eat me if I was dead on a cannibal farm. My self-esteem is fragile enough as it is.

I love conversations kids will have when they think no one is listening. So candid and truthful!

I’m glad you wrote that down because it must find itself in a movie script someday. Seriously.

I think your daughter should be in charge of the dinner menu. And also in charge of starting all conversations at dinner.

If kids give us nothing else, they give us such wonderful material. What I love most is that it just sounds so casual….like she was just telling him this all matter-of-fact like.

Make sure to not give Young Ladrinka any antibiotics. He will fetch a higher price at the Cannibals Farmer’s Market if you can certify that he’s organic.

If I’m eaten on a cannibal farm, I wonder if I’ll be served on a bed of rice. Or noodles. Or a side of mashed potatoes. Do you think I’ll be marinated?

I can’t disagree with your daughter, I would also be sad if no one wanted to eat me. WHAT? Too much fat on my bones? You jerkface!
