Forgive Me, Father, for I Have Sinned

by Marinka on April 7, 2010

Transcript: Tiger, I am more prone to be inquisitive to promote discussion. I want to find out what your thinking was, I want to find out what your feelings are, and did you learn anything.

I’m going to take a stab at it and guess that Tiger is thinking “Gosh, it was great to screw all those bimbos and this being found out shit sucks.”

I’m going to rant.

Because I am tired of Tiger apologizing for essentially keeping a harem. You want to screw women and betray your wife, God Bless. We are all adults here. It’s between you and your family and the bought-and-paid-for-women. It’s up to Elin and family to forgive Tiger, to try to salvage what is left. That I get.

But what I don’t get is this Father’s-Voice-From-Beyond-the-Grave while Tiger looks on, positively Bill Clintonian. It’s cinematic and kind of beautiful, and with enough cocktails, I can be talked into feeling some sympathy for the tragedy of it all.

Except.

You’re doing the whole dead father, mournful son bit to sell Nike.

Is it forgiveness that Earl is offering his son?

Or is it a benediction to buy product?

Have some shame, Nike. Just do it, already.

Oh wow! I hadn’t event thought of it that way. But you’re completely right. It comes down to selling product. It’s deceptive messaging to protect Nike’s investment.

Amen to that! What a bore.

LOVE your blog by the way.

Oh, for the love of God! I had managed to miss this up ’til now. You are exactly right, Marinka. Exactly right. Tiger is an asshat.

I don’t know. I just don’t get it. WTF?

OMG, I could NOT agree more! It is creepy and pathetic and the worst kind of opportunistic advertising. Am I supposed to feel badly for Tiger as he stands there looking so pathetic and thinking about how disappointed his father would be in his fallen-from-grace son?

Honestly, the idea that this idea had to be pitched and sold to Nike and then Tiger agreed to go along with it kind of makes my skin crawl.

For God’s sake…companies will stop at nothing to sell product.

p.s. I just showed this to my husband, and he said it definitely made him want to buy some shoes. Since it has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

I just wondered all along, why did he stay in this marriage if he needs this squadron of different whores to keep him company.

But then again, may be it was designed by Nike from the very beginning.

alternate ending to commercial:
“I was thinking, ‘Just Do It!”
Tiger smiles, gives a big thumbs-up.
Cut to black.
Superimpose Nike motto.

I agree! Everyone knows he is only apologizing because he is trying to save his billion dollar bottom line. Like he’s ACTUALLY sorry he had all that sex. Please.

I thought the camera shot would get closer and closer to his face, and then we could see the signs of syphilis and other venereal diseases.

Ugh, I hadn’t seen that. And I wish I hadn’t. It’s not our obligation as consumers to forgive Tiger. He didn’t do wrong by us, in my opinion. He shat all over his wife and family, and if she is truly attempting to forgive the unforgivable, she’s a stronger woman than I.

That said, I this father is going to reach up from the grave and drag him to hell. Unless he was a big ole male snank, too. After all, ADDICTION is inherited, people.

I feel sorry for his wife. I think that commercial is ridiculous. For some reason I am more appalled by Jesse James and what he did than what Tiger did. Maybe it is because these women seem so skanky, in it for the 15 mins of fame and the fact that he has had a sexual harassment suit filed against him. PIG. Personally….I would kick both of thems ass to the curb so fast it would make your head spin.

One more thing….How much money does Tiger need? Doesn’t he already have enough to live very well the rest of his life and then some? Nike really bombed on this one.

Amen, sister! I am so sick of Tiger Woods. I really don’t care what he has done because it’s none of my business, nor do I care. But selling Nike using his dead father, WOW! That is a new low.

Good God it chaps my hide when celebrities bemoan the fact that their personal lives are invaded by the media, and then turn around and use the media for an “up close and personal” view of their intimate lives. FOR CA$H.

It seems simple to me. If you’re getting too much attention, stop doing the things that attract attention. In Tiger’s case, I really don’t understand how he can put a price tag on the memory of his father. This ad gives me a very icky feeling.

I totally agree, but…. I am more sick of listening to all the bimbos he was shacking up with complain about how they got hurt.
Hello? are you fucking kidding me????
He was freakin married.
Move on and next time pick an dude that isnt already taken.

You are so right. That image of Tiger just standing there listening to his dad, creeps me out. I’ve never watched it thru…..makes me too uncomfortable.

I so agree with you. This commercial creeps me out on so many levels. The voice of a ghoul, the practiced remorse in Tiger’s expression, the Nike product placement – ugh. If he weren’t the #1 golfer, would we give this guy the time of day? Where is his PR person? Probably busy getting sloppy seconds…

Uggghhh. I saw a part of some interview with him where he said that it was “so horrific.” I just burst out laughing. Really, Tiger? Well, now I feel sorry for you and the hell you endured.

Nike has a history of airing commercials that are in poor taste. Remember the one with the African runner being chased by poachers? I’m going to go purge my running wardrobe of any Nike apparel . . . would it be okay to just cut off the swoosh?

You must visit this web site. Yesterday. It rips that commercial apart.

You are so right. Low Nike. Its like they couldn’t get his kids to say “Did you say You’re Sorry, Daddy?”

hahahaha. Laughing at myself because I watched it all with my volume turned off. I couldn’t understand the father comments were about.
It was a better ad with no sound. I thought “I have nothing to say for myself”
