#FU

by Marinka on December 10, 2010

Every week, it’s #FF on Twitter. That’s the day that people tweet the names of people that they follow and enjoy, with a #FF hashtag. #FF stands for “Follow Friday” and it’s a way to recommend great tweeters to your own followers. It’s fun and festive for everyone!

So of course it got me thinking, wouldn’t it be great to do a #FU (Friday unfollow) where you tell your followers who you stopped following that week and why. I tweeted this Pulitzer Prize-winning idea and immediately got a lot of support. Yes! We would do this!

And then I forgot all about it.

Because I’m a nice person. A nice, senile person.

Until BabitosDad reminded me. (#ff @BabitosDad, btw). And then I was all, I couldn’t possibly and he was all you must!

The call to help others is too strong. And too loud.

And it’s true.

So, my first ever #FU is to the Westboro Baptist Church, (with the adorable Twitter handle “GodHatesU” (I’m guessing because their traditional GodHatesFags is just too many characters for that AntiChrist Twitter.)

If you’re not familiar with these assholes, they’re the same ones that picket the funerals of American soldiers. And this weekend they’re picketing Elizabeth Edwards’ funeral.
Some people say that we should ignore them, not give them any attention. If only that made them go away. They’ve been around for years, last year, in my backyard.

Everything they do makes me sick. They preach hatred in the name of religion. They disrupt sacred moments for families grieving. They despise our country.

They get my first every #FU. They’ve earned it.

One year ago ...

I watched a documentary on that cult a few months ago, and it was horrifying. They are truly hateful, hate-filled people. The saddest part was that they are indoctrinating children into their mindset. Seeing little kids yell such horrible things broke my heart.

One hundred years from now, young people will be studying the fact that the most hate -illed, narrow-minded people of our time used religion as a cloak. Not that it’s a new thing, but still.

I thought for sure FU was going to be Fuck You Fridays, as one of my other fav bloggers does that. Kind of was ; -)

There is nothing in your religion that says that you have to love your physical, ideological or theological enemies.

Absolutely, 100% backing you up on this one. What a tragedy that these people are having children to pass along their awful values to. Blech. #FU to them, in more ways than one! 😉

Now, before we throw any more virtual stones here, who amongst you hasn’t received bad fashion advice, a bad decorating idea, or a bad hair coloring from a fag? And haven’t you said to yourself, “God, I hate fags!” Lord know, I spent most of my teens, 20’s and 30’s saying that when I got home from bad dates. And how far away is that from saying “God hates fags!” – really just one changed letter and a punctuation mark away.

My point is that these WBCs are clearly people in need. And I don’t think it’s merely the interbreeding among themselves that has made them so stupid and angry. They are clearly crying out for personal growth, grooming, fitness and nutrition tips – and what do we do? We sneer at them.

I say, in the holiday spirit of giving, let’s open our hearts to this miserable bunch of sad sack, and send prayers and positive thoughts their way!

Maybe even send them a tweet saying something like, “God loves everyone – even dumbfucks like you!”

Bravo! And I wish there was some legal way to stop them from picketing a funeral!!!

OMG, that church pisses me off so much that I want to go follow them just so I can #FU them! Except I haven’t used Twitter in, like, two months and can’t remember my password.

Great FU.

I have family in Topeka. You can see these people anywhere in the city with their signs and placards. They always stay on public property; obviously they know every letter of the law. Saddest thing is that those who are holding the signs are youth…..have seen kids as young as 6 or 7. Warped, I know.

This is one unholy, unChristian group of people. Have you ever heard of Christians promoting hatred?

Thanks for the great post, motherhoodinnyc!

I hear ya! I grew up in Kansas and witnessed several of their protests in Topeka while I was growing up. I didn’t even know they had the brain power to figure out Twitter!

It leaves me sad and horrified… the funerals of soldiers and mothers…

Pure evil always deserves an #FU. But I will pray for them, because Jesus commands it and who knows? Maybe one of them, or one of their poor children, will regain their sanity someday.

#FU is a brilliant idea! Pulitzer indeed!

It’s sad how religion is often used as a cover up. =(
