Good News/OMG News

by Marinka on July 5, 2013

Hey, wouldn’t it be great if at some point, in the history of the universe, someone said “I have good news and bad news, which do you want to hear first?” and just blurted out the news without staging it?

Well, this is going to be one of those times! Pope John Paul II isn’t the only one who gets miracles to his credit (Mazel Tov, by the way!)

The good news is that I got my biopsy results back and the biopsy from my stomach is benign, which is obviously a huge relief, except for the few seconds when I saw the report and was trying to process it because I momentarily forgot that benign is the good one. And the other good news is that while the biopsy from the back of my thigh is “abnormal” it is not considered cancerous. So it just has to be monitored. This is where the OMG part comes in because apparently I’m supposed to look at the area closely for changes every month and get it checked out every three to six months. Let me repeat- I have to look at the back of my thigh every month. Generally speaking, I prefer to look at the back of my thigh every never. No offense to my thighs. Or to people who have eyes.

But obviously I’m very relieved and grateful and have been bathing in sunblock. Although let me reassure you, my thighs have not seen sunlight in over a decade. So you can’t blame me for global warming.

Sighs of relief coming to you from a fellow sunblock-bathing, dermatologist-visiting mother. Great news!!

You are obviously not among those of us, who in our 20’s thought sunblock was for sissies. And in a memorable episode in Greece, climbed the side of a small mountain, came back with a sunburned back, which peeled completely and now is forever “under observation.”

Congratulations? I’m sure hubby would be more than happy to do close examinations, that’s what hubbies are for.

I had a “nothing really, but we’ll take it off just in case” removed from my back a few years ago. Its twin was supposed to remain “closely monitored” with monthly checks to ensure it wasn’t changing in any way. HOW exactly I am supposed to monitor my own back, short of taking contortionist lessons from Cirque du Soliel (which I think I’ve aged out of, anyway), is beyond me.

So you have my sympathy.

Also: YAY that it’s nothing!

Whew! I am so glad to hear this news!

Why don’t you have your daughter look at your thigh for you? I’m sure whatever she says will be uplifting and encouraging.

But but but you will be looking at the back of your thighs with new eyes now. With the eyes of gratitude… that they’re still there, and they’re serving you well, and cottage cheese and interstate roadways have never looked so good (describing mine, of course..)

SO VERY HAPPY TO HEAR THE NEWS.

Okay, wait. Constant interruptions were keeping me from getting beyond “The good news is that I got my biopsy results back and the biopsy from my stomach is benign” and all I can think was holy shit, Marinka might have stomach cancer? As in IN your stomach, not ON your stomach. Whatever, cancer is cancer, and the whole benign, or whatever the other term is, serves only to leave me wishing I could call you to say something like, “You will fight this!” “Is there anything I can do? Let me do the cooking… you go fight this. Kick that cancer’s ass!” Anyway good news is GOOD. More news… well, maybe you can spot check the back of your thigh by taking photos w/ cell phone. Zero in on that sucker every week and no one gets hurt.

Thanks for the emotional roller coaster that was this blog post. Keep up the check ups. And remember “benign” is good. Wait…. that’s the one you want to hear, right? Oh, medicine.

Congrats on your good results! I, too, would prefer never to see the backs of my thighs. But does that keep my husband from snapping pictures at the beach from behind me? No, no it doesn’t. We have irreconcilable thigh differences, here.

Awesome news. And I’m sorry for the burden of glancing at your thighs, but it’s a small price to pay.

I blame the webbed folding chairs from our childhood for the issues with my thighs. I mean that plastic webbing wedged in our thighs leaving marks that make Celulite look good!
I’m sure it’s caused other damage. I know Im mentally scared from it. Who can forgot that image of flesh appearing to seep under all the webbing(Shiver) . Blame the webbing. And steer clear.
