Happy New Year! I’m Right, You’re Wrong!

by Marinka on January 2, 2012

Happy New Year, everyone!

Let’s get the New Year started on the right foot by answering the question that’s been on my mind, oh, since FOREVER.

As in all the past I’m Right, You’re Wrong posts, I will present you with a disagreement that I’ve been having with a loved one, without disclosing which position I am taking, and ask you to weigh in. There are no right or wrong answers here! Just learning!

Dilemma: Do vaginas breathe and does wearing underwear to bed cut off..vagina’s oxygen supply?

Disageers: Mama and Marinka

Position One: Maria Ivanovna (Russian slang for vagina. Don’t ask.) needs to breathe. If you wear underwear to bed, she suffocate because underwear choke her.

Position Two: Wearing underwear to bed does not kill vagina.

Eh?

What say you?

I’m with number 1. Not…because she needs to breath or anything. I mean, I guess I agree with number 2 in that the vagina doesn’t need to breath. But on the other hand, I feel it’s like airing out the linens.

…If that makes sense.

Is your Mama Sharon Stone, and you’re just not telling us?

So vaginas don’t breathe during the day? I haven’t worn underwear for years because I thought they did?

I don’t know if you ever watch The Doctors (for some reason, I’m going to guess no) but Dr. Lisa, the show’s ob/gyne is ALWAYS saying that you need to let your hoo-ha breathe. I think Mama may have this one. Just sayin…

Great. Now I find out I’ve been suffocating my vagina all these years.

I think it depends on what kind of drawers and what else you wear. I mean, if it’s trapped inside synthetic drawers and 3 layers, yeah, it’d probably like more air. Personally I feel like mine breathes just fine with drawers on.

Really? This is an issue I need to worry about? I never knew that. My vagina is fine, we like underwear. Never been a problem in my world and mine is quite experienced. LOL But I do wear cotton so maybe that is why it’s fine. If breathing tissues is an issue, perhaps we need to go back to just being naked, that would solve all the skin problems!

I refuse to wear underwear during the night. Have you ever woken up at 4 am with a wedgie? Damned uncomfortable!

She needs breath. Also, makes easier for Peter Volkov to come give . . . uh . . . mouth to mouth if necessary.

Let Maria breathe. Free Maria!

I’m sorry, I have to ask. Russians call their vaginas Maria? West Side Story is ruined for me. I’m with #2, does not kill vagina. Otherwise, my vagina is dead and gone as of 40 years ago.

Undies might not kill her, but I swear my Maria wakes up happier when she sleeps without.

Oh no! Maria Ivanova will soon be on a respirator? Ditch the underwear or carry an emergency inhaler at all times.

My friend is a midwife and she says let your vagina breathe at night too.

Here in the great white north during the darkest cold of Canadian winters, we feel no need to wear undies to bed. Flannel, yes. Undies, no.

I go totally buff, sans underpants, commando, etc… for sure. My gyno told me a long time ago that sleeping panty free would help prevent yeast infections as well. Also, makes for some very nice random sexy time if you are always ready =)

My vagina said, “Girl, relax. I’ve got you covered. I self maintain…I don’t need no fancy britches or cotton from mistah…but law girl, spare me the g-string and you and I will get along just right.

One doc of mine said to air her out at night, another said it doesn’t matter. I’ve been wearing undies to bed all my life, so at 35 years old suddenly NOT wearing underwear feels too weird to me. But don’t panic, Maria Ivanovna seems to be doing just fine.

The next Nobel Prize in medicine should go to the doctor who will develop a System of Vaginal Respiratory Exercise.

Can’t you filter some of this from your dad? It makes me uncomfortable.

Oh, believe me, I’ve deleted papa’s (Awesome Dude’s) comments in the past, but I don’t see anything wrong with this one. Why does it make you uncomfortable?

I fear my husband will consider this an open invitation. Pun intended. (ew, sorry.)

Plus, I pee myself a lot after 2 kids and 0 kegels. So, i’m suffocating the Jay to keep my linen laundry to a minimum. Sorry mama.

Hmm. How does Mama feel about night gowns?

Reply

Cindy January 4, 2012 at 2:45 pm

Sorry, Maria, but until my 5 yr old stays put in her own bed or her sisters’ bed, I cannot let you air out at night. That is very wrong. Now, said 5 yr old has no problem ditchin’ her Barbie undies but she has a babymaria and I gave birth to her so it’s cool. Literally.
(why does it feel wrong to be humming to the tune of “there’s something about Mariaaaa!”)

I’m totally with you on this one! Until I’m not getting any more surprise midnight visitors (and I’m talking about the kind with the tendency towards stomach flu, nosebleeds, bad dreams and monsters in the closet, not the kind with deep voices and bottles of Courvoisier), Maria sleeps clothed.

I cannot even imagine trying to sleep without underwear on. Just…no.
Underwear and PJs. I don’t even like the “freedom” of a nightgown.
Of course, I also sleep in socks.

MAN! Reading the comments now I am sad, as I have “aired” Maria since I was probably 11 or whenever I got my own bedroom, and now have a baby in the womb and realize I may actually be forced to wear panties for decency’s sake because of nighttime visitors?? DAMNIT! I don’t know if my girl needs to breathe, but I need to not be stifled by wearing undies all day and all night.
