I Got Your Blood Libel Right Here!

by Marinka on January 12, 2011

Today’s guest post is coming to you straight from my friend Vicki Boykis. She’s a fellow Russian Jewess funny lady! She and I are practically twins. Born decades apart.

Fellow Jews-Are you tired of waiting for Passover to be blamed for the deaths of hundreds of innocent Christian children by including them in your matzoh recipes?  You’re in luck!  Today, Sarah Palin used the term “blood libel” in one of her OMGFacebook posts: (click to embiggen)

which resulted in it trending, or becoming commonly Tweeted, on Twitter (Ok, I admit the STOP STRESSING was me, constantly Tweeting to myself last night at 3 in the morning that the mole I have is not a tumor.  To be fair, it did turn out to be a birthmark.)
Everyone’s talking about it so much that I have become concerned that I was mixing up my Hebrew calendars:
Boy, I’ll tell you, and I’m sure Marinka will agree with me, that nothing makes me feel included in the country’s political rhetoric like someone saying they are a victim of an anti-Semitic slur that has resulted in hundreds of thousands of actual Jewish deaths over the centuries.

But don’t worry, Sarah, a satirical Twitter account has a suggested apology for you:

Really, Sarah. Take a page from the Mama Bloggers. Give Wordless Wednesday a try.

I’m Jewish and never even heard the term before. Perhaps it hasn’t made it to the south yet! But we do eat Matzo year round in my house.

If we’re waiting for an apology, we shouldn’t hold our breath. However, maybe she’ll at least exuberantly express just how much she loves Israel in one of her next tweets.

It’s not so much an apology that I’m waiting for as an acknowledgment that words have meaning and are not just random sounds that people make.

I would love for that as well, but that’s something that we’ve never seen from her in the 3 or so years that she has “graced” us with her presence. I think an apology is more likely than that!

Oy to the Vey!
Can we get Tina Fey to do a dramatic reading?

After all that and she types “I need that like I need a hole in the head”? Is she purposely obtuse or truly a fool?

She will NEVER admit that words have any meaning, unless of course it works to her advantage.

Remember all of her outrage and demanding firings of people in political positions for using the “r” word? Yet, she of course defended Rush Limbaugh’s use of the word and as far as I know, she was silent when the lovely Ann Coulter very recently used of it.

The use of the sights on marketing materials, suggesting that people “reload”, insinuating a “2nd Amendment solution” is all perfectly fine unless of course could use is against an “opponent”.

I love how it’s the media’s fault. Just like they went after her viciously by asking her what news sources she read. Scandalous, inflammatory, left-wing media.

What is wrong with this woman? Oops, was that a political comment. I second the motion for Tina Fey doing a dramatic reading.

Can it also be used for rugelah.

Yes. But, the use of blood in matzah versus rugelach has been widely regarded by scholars as a deciding factor in the schism between Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews.

Love this! Especially your closing sentence. Very well done. 🙂 Sarah reminds me a little of George W. Bush, in a way. Cringe.

I agree with you after I just looked up “blood libel” in wikipedia and became quite shocked!

Smart people think alike! I did the same.

I am not even quite sure I could possible ever randomly put those two words together myself. Elisabeth Hasselbeck needs to head up there to teach her how to cook gluten free and stuff her face with it.

Okay, I fess up. It was me that constantly tweeted: Kate Hudson and Enduring Strength…as in: Kate Hudson do you have the Enduring Strength to take out Sarah Palin? (There’s a rumor that Kate is really a for-hire assassin, ok, I might have started the rumor but still…it’s now the word on the street)

Awesome Dudeleh, do not share the secret ingredient.

Curious about who wrote it, and what they purposely briefed or did not brief her on.

I am not a fan a Sarah Palin either but there’s no way that SarrahPalin@U5A is the former vice presidential candidate. Even she would not be so callous and asinine. Please be careful who you quote. The internet is full of frauds and people who love to incite madness.

Oops. Just reread it. Sorry. It’s early. I wish I had a recall button. Feel free to delete me.

Sarah Palin aside (which is where she belongs), it’s fascinating to me that your pal Vicki also stresses about birth marks. You two really are sisters.

Marinka and I talking about hypochondria are like what would happened if WebMD made a horror movie.

I’ll be honest, I stopped listening to her a long time ago.

Sigh. Eyeroll.
