If You’re In NYC, Please Come To This Tomorrow

by Marinka on May 22, 2012

I was going to start this post by telling you how I know about this boy. About how my friend and book group member Lara emailed me and told me that this boys is the nephew of her son’s- but you know what? Does it really matter?

As my friend Stacey once said, “it’s always someone’s baby” and as parents, and as people who know what it is like to love a child, it is every parents’ nightmare.

I am asking you to please attend a bone marrow donor drive for Colin Flood, a 6 year old who was diagnosed with Acute Lympocetic Leukemia in December 2011. He has been undergoing chemotherapy since that time. His doctors say that his best chance of survival is a bone marrow transplant. And we need to find a match.

You could be a match, and save a little boy’s life.

The bone marrow donor drive, where potential donors will get swabbed, will be held tomorrow, May 23rd at 7:30 am to 11:30 am at Kidding Around Toy Store, 60 West 15th Street, at 6th Avenue. I will be there, and I encourage you to come too, if you can.

Please let others in the NYC area know about this drive. And let me know if you’re going to be there.

Thank you!

A dear friend just found out he’s in remission 100 days after his bone marrow transplant. I know what this means. I’m registered, but I hope other people can understand the life-altering importance of that one simple cheek swap.

I don’t live in NY but I am registered on the national marrow list. Anyone can register to be a possible donor. It’s very easy. Go to http://www.marrow.org. They will send you a simple testing and sign up kit.

Eerie. I know another little boy in NYC, with a relapse of the same. I signed up and got swabbed (by mail) just a couple of weeks ago. I’ll spread the word though.
