I’m now a Tastemaker. I think.

by Marinka on January 6, 2012

Hey, you know how I’m always saying “I want to make lists!” “Is there a way that I can make more lists?”

No? You never noticed that? Well, perhaps this is as good a time as any to go through my archives. I’ll wait.

tap, tap.

(That’s me getting a beer on tap, btw)

Anyway.

The lovely people at Skinny Scoop made my dreams come true and made me a Tastemaker on their awesome site. (I’m not exactly sure what a Tastemaker is, but I assume it’s some kind of codespeak for Nobel Laureate with Linda Evangelista cheekbones).

But it means that I get to make lists.

Any kind of lists that I want.

I’m already planning lists like:

Things Everyone Can Do To Make My Life Better

Actresses That I Could Outact Out Of A Paper Bag

Reasons My Kids’ Bedtime Should Be 6:30 p.m. EST

But until then, I made a list of books that are currently on my Kindle Fire. This will save you the trouble of breaking into my house to see what’s on my Kindle Fire. I just saved you a trip to NYC and a possible arrest. Pretty considerate of me, don’t you think?

Check out my list! It’s called Books Roasting on My Kindle Fire because I like to tip my hat to book burning.

and if you have any ideas of lists I can make over at Skinny Scoop, leave me a comment! You never know when I’ll steal your idea!

“Celebrities” that need to go away? Preferrably to a deserted island with no contact with the real world?

Bloggers who are almost as fabulous as you are?

Miss Peregrines was weird, but I liked it. So different from pretty much everything I’ve read lately.

Tina Fey’s Bossypants has been on my “must read” list for too long. It seems my “must read” list has grown much longer than my “have read” list. I’ll have add that to my “things I must fix” list.

Must be the name…cause all I can say is ditto. Received Bossypants for Christmas, added it to the stack of 4 books I’m currently reading (I use the term loosely.) We’ll see if I get to it in 2012.

I am 350 pp into 11/22/63 and can’t put it down. Actually, I almost brought it to work but thought better.

“stupidest blogs ever”
“why my children are 1000 times better then your’s”
“cat vs dog people”

Liked Bossypants a lot, really excited about Catherine the Great..I haven’t heard about that one yet. The more I think about her, the more impressed I am with her. All European and sent to govern the savages.

I just read A Gracious Plenty by Sheri Reynolds in about 5 hours. Mainly because I was attempting to stay up until midnight to ring in the New Year and it happened to be sitting on my shelf (no memory of actually purchasing it). I AM SO GLAD I READ IT!! And you should, too. And if I was smart enough to figure out that list site I’d comment over there.

I first felt that is a virtual “Fat farm” for confused urban JAP’s , but, of course it runs much deeper….

It is hard to miss my classic features.

I am preparing lists every morning.

Yes, “The House of Mirth” IS fun! Especially that whole plot thing about her life slowly unravelling and her not being able to find an honest place for herself in the world! LOL! And her death? Hilarious! Almost as much fun as “The Yellow Wallpaper”! Or “Bridesmaids”!

I know! This is the first time I have seen Marinka’s face. …Totally worth the 6 months of stalking (online, of course, sweetheart!)

Even I set aside enough time from reading your blog to read Bossypants.

Just finished Bossypants (like 49 seconds ago). There was chuckling, laughing, and full-out snorting. (By me.)
Enjoy!

Of course, the subtitle for the Catherine the Great bio could be (should have been) “seriously bossypants.” And frankly–I thought Bossypants was overrated. You’re funnier. But you need a hit TV show. Maybe that could be a skinny scoop list? “Reasons why Marinka needs a TV show?” (Literary history side note: they tried to make a play out of House of Mirth but it failed miserably. Friend of Wharton’s said “what americans want is a tragedy with a happy ending.”)

My reading list [sadly] consists of notes home from my son Nick’s teacher, Entertainment Weekly and funniest autocorrects ever.

I am also not a huge Stephen King fan, but I loved the Dark Tower series and “On Writing,” so I am trusting your judgement on this one. You are beautiful, by the way.
