Junior Forensics

by Marinka on October 14, 2010

I love those moments before the kids fall asleep. Not just because, duh, they’re about to shut the hell up and go to sleep, but because that’s the time when they tell me little tidbits about their day and their lives. Like my 12 year old daughter told me that she wants to excel at science because science is cool.

And my nine year old Young Ladrinka told me that his friend Ben farted during math and confessed to it and then a few hours later, Young Ladrinka smelled the exact same smell and asked Ben if he farted again and Ben said “no” and Young Ladrinka knows that he’s lying because it was the exact same smell as the math fart.

Have a nice weekend!

P.S. I’m hungry.

I think that I could have lived my whole life without hearing that fart story…but it is wonderful that your daughter is so excited about science.

Bacon!! Eat some bacon.

Obviously Young Ladrinka is the one with mad science skills.

My son is exactly the same, worried more about farts than math.

Perhaps the education system has it all wrong (well, we know it does) maybe they should teach math like this:
If Billy farted at 10 am and Shelly farted at 10:30 and the classroom was a 12 foot by 12 foot square, how long would it take for Billy’s fart to meet Shelly’s?

My son is five and is already enamored of farts. And thanks to you, now I know I have four more years until he tells me a math fart story.

I loooove the just before falling asleep tidbits. Glad to know that it continues as they get older. Those moments give me a more concrete sense of what is going on in those heads of theirs…because most of the time I’m really only guessing.

Eat!! It’s 11:30pm and I just had two bowls of cereal because hungry makes me cranky.

Soooo glad I have girls, they don’t go in for farts so much (at least I hope….)

Too Funny! My boys had a favorite book called “Good Families Don’t” – or something like that ( Robert Munsch is the author – oh ya – he just happens to be Canadian) and they would giggle and squirm every single time we read it. Boys just love farts – and it would seem that they never grow out of ‘that stage’. Young Ladrinka certainly has a talent if he can match the smell to the smelleee.

It is called good olfactory memory.

He is not more deviant then any of us.

I believe Ladrinka! Doesn’t take much to imprint a fart memory for a lifetime.

I have cousins like that. As a kid I could walk into a room and know if they’d been there. Their mother wasn’t a very good cook. Thankfully we no longer keep in touch.

ohh i can relate– i was in the hardware store with geigh John a couple weekends ago- we were standing on line to pay, and all of a sudden this horrific rotten egg smell starts to permeate the air. i mention it to John- and he glances at some petite woman in the line- as if he knew the source.

i believed him, shot the woman a “look”- and we stepped back from her.

not 10 minutes later- John is in my apt. building and i start to smell the EXACT smell– HA!! caught!! …and he had eggs and coffee for lunch- i rest my case-!!)

Oh, I do think our boys would be fast friends! Fart talk and humor holds no end of interest around here: http://catfurtomakekittenbritches.wordpress.com/2010/09/02/the-fart-bag/
