Kids Today

by Marinka on November 1, 2011

Here I am, the morning after the night before and I am disheartened.

I am disheartened because I spent last night in the company of Young Ladrinka and some of his peers and if this is the future of America, then, friends, I am scared. Nay, terrified.

Because last night was Halloween, and I donned a jolly costume.

And did the children hail and praise me?

No, they did not.

But that is to be expected.

What was not expected was that these children did not seem to know who I was dressed as.

“Cool Angry Bird costume!” one App-brainwashed dumbass said.

I shot him a look of contempt and ridicule.

“She’s not Angry Bird, she’s Clifford!” his future co-defendant chimed in.

I don’t understand these kids. Are they not exposed to culture at all?

Have they forgotten their childhoods completely?

Young Ladrinka didn’t have much to say.

He was too busy rocking in a corner.

“This is so embarrassing,” he finally muttered.

Hi, I'm Po! The Homicidal Teletubby!

Yeah, embarrassing that your mom had a kicker ass costume than you did.

Please, parents. Teach your children about the Teletubbies. Because my generation of parents were forced to watch the Teletubbies. And future generations should know our story.

I dunno. Wasn’t Po the one responsible for breaking the Tubby custard machine?

I never forgave him for that.

Well at least they did not mistake you for Muno the giant red one-eyed vibrator from Yo Gabba Gabba.

I dressed my adorable 1 year old grandson (now 13) as LaLa (yellow one). I made the costume, he was sooo cute as he toddled around trick or treating! He adored Tubbies and from the time he could sit in his saucer, 5 months? until about age 1 1/2 he would be mesmerised and dance and sing with them if we put them on tv. Then he moved on to Clifford (“I wuv Cwifferd” he sighingly said to me one day). Now he is horrified about his past love of Tubbies so of course, being the awesome gramma I am, I bring out the pictures and go on and on about his facination with them and his favorite Lalalalalalalala! Being a grandma is so much fun!!! Ha!!
Cool costume! You are awesome as well! Keep educating those young’uns!

One of my 8th graders was a teletubby and she was highly peeved that the first graders did not know who she was!

I am a terrible mother. My son does not know the Teletubbies. He knows Dinosaur Train and Blue’s Clues but that’s it.

I would have thought you were an alien. I will go turn myself into CPS now.

Is the teletubby (teletubbie?) era truly over? You just made my day! I don’t have to suffer through this with my daughter? I am sooooo glad I had her NOW and not, you know, 10 years ago (well, there might be other reasons for that, too, not just the annoying little teletubby sh*ts, but they definitely solidify the fact that having her now is soooo much better!)

(Please don’t remind me there is more than enough annoying children’s programming still out there. Please. My fingers are in my ears and I’m humming away, trying to block out the images of what will be on my TV in the coming years…)

All sing along now…(This old man..)

I hate Po
Po hates me
Tinky Winky shot Dipsy
..with a bang bang here and a bang to the head
Sorry La La Dipsy’s dead

Dipsy died La La cried
Po committed suicide
Tinky Winky did the same
Telly Tubbies you’re insane

May they all rest in peace.
Worst childrens show ever. We never had it on after one horrified viewing.
My then 15 year old banned it, on the grounds that her 2 year old sister was smarter than that.

Hahaha.

When I was a babysitter I had to watch Teletubbies. Now I’m a mother and have to watch In The Night Garden. Not sure which one is worse.

You’re a NYC bedbug, but you won’t admit it. Tell the truth, missy.

O my gosh, I hated that show. With a fiery passion. Instead, I forced my parents to watch Barney. To this day, my mother still says that he is the devil. I thought he was cute and loving? The things parents will do for their kids….

But thank GOD my mother never dressed up like Barney, I would have been so embarrassed. About 50 billion awesome mom points go to you for embarrassing the heck out of Young Ladrinka.

Best picture ever. Okay, of our generation.
