Leg Pit

by Marinka on August 31, 2011

We are back to civilization. Well, NYC. I am so happy to have electricity and running water. But instead of telling you about my euphoria, I will share a recent conversation that I had with my 10 year old son, Young Ladrinka.

“My leg pit itches.”

“What?”

“My leg pit is itchy.”

“Leg pit?”

“Yeah.”

“What’s a leg pit?”

“Right here.”

“That area is called behind your knee.”

“Why? Leg pit is faster to say.”

“Yes, fast is the word that I was looking for to describe this conversation.”

This is awkward.

My kid calls it the leg pit as well. As in, “Tickling me in the leg pit is my weakness.” Evidently the leg pit is his Achilles heel.

HA! My husband says leg pit too! I was definitely confused the first time he said it!

So then this other place, where my swags of back fat meet my front fat–should I be calling that “behind my shoulder”? Using proper anatomical terms is so important.

I would guess that it is the space between big toes.

Nice. If he starts putting deodorant on it you might want to get concerned. My oldest son told me he put deodorant on his feet once because they were, “really stinky.”

This is a fallacious argument. How would he call an area behind an elbow then?

Does calling it leg pit mean we have to shave there too?

In my family we alos have an elbow pit…it cracks other people up when they hear my children refer to thier elbow pit. It just seems obvious to them.

My six-year-old son calls it “leg pit” too. And all summer he has been serenading us with a distinctive sound that he makes with *both* his leg pit *and* his arm pit.

We’ve been itching our leg pits for years. Ever since my 3 year old popped out of the tub and uttered this brilliance. Good stuff!
