Mama and Papa Have a New Baby! Will They Still Love ME?

by Marinka on November 2, 2009

I have news!

I have a new baby brother.

Here he is:

Hi! I'm new! And so much cuter than Marinka! She's old!

Hi! I'm new! And so much cuter than Marinka! She's old!

His ears have been circumcised:

I hope they're better at the ear cropping thing than they are at this photo cropping thing!

I hope they're better at the ear cropping than they are at the photo cropping thing!

Mama and papa adopted him last week because they are too old to have a biological baby without appearing on the cover of national weeklies.    Also because they are not Dobermans.  But that doesn’t mean that they will love him any less!

He’s supercute. And that is the foundation of love. You don’t see Angelina adopting mutants, do you? Mama and Papa are just like Angelina.

A few weeks ago, mama told me that she wanted to name the new baby puppy Luke, but she was unsure because I have a neighbor whose name is Lu.ca and she didn’t want him to be offended that a dog was named after him.  My view was that first of all, why would he get offended? Besides, it’s not like Luke and Lu.ca were the same name!  She and papa should name the dog whatever they want, for heaven’s sake!

So impassioned was my speech, that mama and papa promptly named their baby puppy Lu.ca.  Middle name= Marinka’s Neighbor.

I told them to spell it Looka and John is enraged because he said that’s an entirely different pronunciation.  But since Looka isn’t an elocution specialist, we’ll let him be. So it’s Looka Marinka’s Neighbor.

Already there has been some confusion when my daughter said “Oh em gee! Looka is adorable!” and Husbandrinka became concerned that she was referring to our neighbor. I can’t wait until Looka comes over and pees in the kitchen!

So anyway, I’m having a bit of a hard time adjusting and am regressing a little.  Why wasn’t I enough for my parents? If they truly loved me,  would they have another baby? I hate him! He’s so young and shiny and bouncy!  But more on that later.

For now, please welcome Looka to our family! He better be good blog fodder.

I love Dobies but they are very protective. VERY protective, as in children shouldn’t fool with them. Especially around the head area. I once took Bea Arthur’s Dobie and wrapped my hand around his muzzle. BECAUSE MY YORKIE LIKED THAT AS A GAME.

The Dobie did not like that and it’s a miracle I can still use 2 hands to type.
P.S. I am stupid.

Great. Now I have to worry about my baby brother killing me. Canine and Able, anyone?

I have violent oppositions to pets carrying people names. They should all be Buck, Bolt and Bam. Just like cars should only be black, white or red. Cars were never meant to be blue.

I am undergoing a major life change and this is your salve for my wounds? Fine. I’m sure mama and papa will change his name soon to FAVE. As in “our favorite child.”

And how is poor Nikki accepting her new giant of a cousin/uncle? Could be traumatic.

Mama and Looka and Nicki are all at our apartment this afternoon. I asked Mama how it was going and she said, “Nicki has wide eyes with a question mark inside of them.”

Your parents are sending you a subtle message. They felt that you didn’t live up to their standards by sitting still and obeying when they yelled your name, being happy and eager to play at all times, and wagging your tail when they came home from work.

Next thing you know they’ll want to schedule sibling playdates. Then you’ll be babysitting and signing guardianship papers….
Watch out, siblings are a pain in the ass at any age. Especially when they’re not potty trained and run around naked.
But Congrats to Mama and Papa; they must be so proud.

I’m troubled that you want your neighbor to come pee in your kitchen.

Really, peeing in your kitchen is the new “borrow a cup of sugar”. Because who can afford to spare a cup of sugar in today’s economy?

Also, while dobermans can be very friendly, a playful nip to the mashonka would really smart.

I will pass that recommendation to Looka. Along with your address.

I had a really hard time picking a name for my son and was considering Luke, but thank God I didn’t since my 4yo still can’t say the freaking “l” sound. So, consider yourself lucky that there are at least no small children involved calling him “Yooka Marinka’s Neighbor” and totally confusing people. Wait…to your children say “Marinka’s neighbur” or “Mom’s neighbor”. Wait do you say “My neighbor”. Do you SEE what a confusing mess you started?

No. They will not love you anymore. When my son was born, I became the nice lady that brings the grandbaby to my parents. TOTALLY REPLACED! My parents never took my to the Caribbean , they took my 5 yr old.

My mom & dad got a cat after I moved out. It slept on the kitchen table and peed on the family room rug. I would have dead the first time I did it. They put up with the cat for years.

Marinka November 3, 2009 at 9:34 pm

If your parents want to adopt me as a pet, I promise not to sleep on the kitchen table or pee on the rug. Or vice versa. Plus, my shots and passport are all up to date, so I am available for any and all vacations.

Congrats on your new baby brother! Perhaps, you could suggest a little older sibling gift to mama and papa to curb any jealous feelings you may have towards the baby?

That is a wonderful idea. I’m sure that a few medium to large sized gifts are just what the child psychologists order in these circumstances.

Um, I have bad news. No, they will not. Here is a typical phone conversation with my mom:

“Mom, are you coming for Brie’s concert?”
“Oh! You should see Jackson right now, he’s trying to get on my lap.”
“Mom, are you guys coming?”
“hold on- Honey! Look at Jackson!”
“mom, can you come?”
“Well, we don’t like to leave Jackson in the kennel…”

trust me Dude. Prepare yourself.

Marinka November 3, 2009 at 9:36 pm

You know, that Jackson is really starting to get on my nerves.

Uh oh. You know what they say in showbiz: kids and dogs = scene stealers. You’re no longer the star of this blog. Everyone will want to see photos, lots of photos, of adorable, growing up Looka. They’ll want stories, lots of stories, about Looka’s playful puppy antics. They’ll want reports, lots of reports, about Mama and Papa’s everyday life with Looka: the trials of housebreaking, teething and related destruction of the house, obedience school, starting with puppy classes thru Ph.D. You might as well go ahead and rename the blog Looka in NYC.

Oh my god, I think you’re right! How is it that I did not see this coming? I am super worried now. Maybe I need a publicist. Or a dog catcher.

Before you can even blink, Mama and Papa will be asking you and Husbandrinka to babysit him so they can get away for an evening.

And then Husbandrinka might like him better than Nikki.

Or you.

Pfft! You think you’re feeling resentment now; just wait!

i am the oldest of my parent’s 8 human children — all of them have survived to adulthood, and many of them have prodigy of their own. my parents were very good parents, but i would not have said “doting” was in their nature.

well, now they have 7 dog children and 1 cat child. and they dote to a degree that is astounding. i have wanted my parents to come and visit for christmas for years and years. now they don’t want to leave the “babies” for too long. they came for a week in the summertime and were so distraught that one of their dogs had been lonely (staying with my youngest sister, who spoiled her to death) that they don’t think they can afford to take a week away anymore.

now, marinka, you might think of this as good news, because at least poppanka and mommanka won’t be calling you to offer advice, criticism and direction anymore. but wait — you’ll get the christmas card with the dog in a santa hat — or, perhaps in your case, when they have the bark mitzvah. canine and abel, indeed (surprised actually your parents didn’t name the dog “abel”!)

Marinka November 3, 2009 at 10:01 pm

Bark mitzvah?! I can see my future mapped out for me very clearly now, thank you. I will start to prepare for it. With prescription medication.
