My BlogHer

by Marinka on August 2, 2012

Yesterday morning I was sitting on the subway next to a man who was biting his nails. Usually I’m of the Live and Let Live school of thought, but with a minor in Death To People Who Are Biting Their Nails on the Subway Next to Me.

So I changed my seat.

And landed next to a woman who was filing her nails. But I was worried about changing my seat again because with the way my day had been going I’d probably end up next to someone who’d take a chalkboard out of his bag and then run his fingernails across it.

I got off at my stop (as opposed to getting off at someone else’s stop) thinking that the day was going to really suck. But as I was exiting, I ran into my friend Ellen. I met Ellen during my first BlogHer in Chicago (in 2009. OMG, we were so young!) and one of the things that I love about her is her laughter. It’s infectious. Like Ebola, but in a good way. And just chatting with her for a few minutes, telling each other that we hoped that we’d see each other at BlogHer, but who knows, because it’s so huge, made me feel like I was going to have a really good day. Because blogging led me to a world where I have more friends than someone with my personality deserves. And I feel connected to people who are smart and lovely and I get to have dinner with them, and drinks with them and breakfast with them and I can’t wait to see them IRL.

Believe me, I’m jealous of myself right now.

I can’t wait for BlogHer to start today. I can’t wait to spend the weekend with friends whose writing I love and whose hearts I know. I’m excited about meeting new people even though I’m very scared that I’ll forget someone’s name and accidentally drink their cocktail.

Also, I’m a bit tired now, so please insert a poignant yet humorous ending to the post here. Come on, we’re all in this together.

I’m so glad I randomly bowled with you at that first BlogHer because yours is one of the only blogs so good I even read it during the school year when my official social media time ends. Hope to run into you this weekend! Or anywhere in NYC ever.

At then end of this post in my google reader, the ad was for an As Seen On TV no more nail biting remedy. Isn’t it comforting to know that the internet feels your pain? Also, creepy.

Wish I could be at Blogher! Have a great time! Already loving your tweets.

Wait a minute – now this is a do-it-yourself blog with fill in the blank endings? We come here for serious stories, not participation. geez.

Anyway, have fun at BH.

Hi Marinka, I am a long-time reader, sometime commenter, and I do not meant to alarm you or ruin your BlogHeropeful day, but have you seen this? http://vitals.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/08/02/13088735-health-teams-face-real-life-horror-in-ebola-battle?lite

It seems relevant to your current interests.

Sigh… Don’t you love when a big world gets smaller?

Couldn’t get my sh*t together in time to pull off a trip to BlogHer this year. Maybe next year. I’m loving your tweets of everyone you’re running into. Keep it up. Have FUN!

I’m jealous because none of my friends remind me of Ebola.

Marinka – I was so tickled to find myself sitting in the row ahead of you at the “Stop Blogging About Me Mom” panel! (-: I really think they should’ve given you a chocolate bar for your comment about how your kid finds you annoying “just for breathing.”
Thank you for inviting me to your Mouthy Housewives party – now I can leave saying I met Marinka, and somebody actually invited me to something! (-:

I am so relieved you didn’t drink my cocktail. It went by too fast.

Marinka: you continue to shock me with the flauntiness of your ways. Twirling around in the cocktail bar swivel chair for all to see the enticing bare of your back in the BlogHer black evening wear halter dress.

Shocked.

However, were I blonde and black haltered, I must truthfully confess, I’d have done the same swirly behavior.

Thank you for the full circle gander…

ALways: you make me laugh and are quick as a whip.

So funny…

I loved seeing you.
