My Plan to Steal Husbandrinka’s Friend

by Marinka on November 7, 2009

EMERGENCY UPDATE:  Husbandrinka is not playing fair.

Terrified of losing Adrian, he TRANSLATED from FRENCH into ENGLISH the lyrics.  Now we can all sing along.

I had told you on the telephone one day in Paris, do you remember ?

It should not at all surprise you if I go to New York with you.

I am swapping my beret and my baguette for a double cheese burger and a cap

Done with wine and half peaches, I would prefer a nice cold small can

When I wake up and I take off, Air France and its all white sled

Piercing the sky like a bird, cruising at a lively pace

I have a memory in my head, a statue of liberty

And in my sack a future for children in difficulty

It could well be that I am a utopian, a [soft] madman or I don’t know what

But when I take off from the runway, I think of those who don’t travel

I am no Santa Claus, but like the common one of the mortals

I dream of solidarity, justice and equality.

A few weeks ago, I tweeted something about having had it up to HERE with people asking me to vote for things, so it only makes sense that I am now asking  you to go to YouTube and vote for my friend Adrian’s (and his gorgeous kids’) video.

I tried hard to think of a reason that this isn’t hypocritical, and the only thing I came up with is that it’s not nice to call people hypocritical.

Besides, it’s for a greater good.  See, Adrian is originally Husbandrinka’s friend. They’ve known each other since they were both working in Berlin in 1992.  (I just asked Husbandrinka if they were there for the fall of the Wall and he said “no, seeing as that happened three years before.” Like normal people are supposed to know that.)

Anyway, I decided that I want to steal him from Husbandrinka.    Because he may be one of his coolest friends.  He’s all English and African, living in France, with a French supermodel-type wife and three well-mannered children who speak English fluently, albeit with a Teletubby accent.  And after my children spend time with Adrian’s children they say things like, “that idea is rubbish, mommy!” which is totally endearing if you don’t pay too much attention to what it actually means.

So, please vote for them!  It would mean a lot to me.  And you get to see the gorgeous kids!

And if they win, Adrian will get to take the inaugural AirFrance airbus (that’s TWO FLOORS of airplane!) flight to NYC with one of his kids.  (Husbandrinka just told me that the plane is called the A380, and not the two floors of airplane. I can’t believe that he has Adrian and I have John.  Who last week told me “have you washed your shower head recently? Because you can get Legionnaire’s disease from it.”)

Personally, it would take two floors of Xanax to get me on that flight.  Plus, I’m really curious how Adrian will handle telling his two kids that they are not the Chosen ones to accompany him on the flight. I love these Sophie’s Choice scenarios.

The good news is that you can vote every day!  All you have to do is log onto YouTube (which is the same as logging onto your Google account and hit the fifth star.)  It would mean a lot to me.  Especially when Adrian comes to NYC and announces to Husbandrinka that I’m his favorite family member now.  I promise to capture that moment on video.

Maybe Adrian will ask YOU to go on the trip. What would you do, then? If you really want to steal him from Husbandrinka you’d have to accept. Better start stockpiling your Xanax.

I was there for the fall of the wall. I even have a piece of it!

I don’t know how to have a YouTube account, but I’ll try. Just for you.

I voted today. And I’ll vote tomorrow. Etc. I bet he’ll have to draw straws or something equally equal to pick which kid he’ll bring. What a bummer it will be for the other two! But I’m with you – better them than me!

I was thinking the same thing- how will he choose? And I don’t think it’s fair when some families get to be all uber successful and attractive and charming. That screws the rest of us.

Their video is by far the best, and they certainly deserve to win! I watched some of the other entries and there’s nothing that comes close to the creativity and quality of their video. Plus, those kids are adorable. I don’t speak French, so I couldn’t understand the lyrics–something about New York and the Statue of Liberty and eating sandwiches. Whatever, I love listening to songs in French. I have the CD from the movie “French Kiss,” and have worn it out listening to “Dream a Little Dream of Me.” Sorry, Mama Cass.

I voted and agree that is best entry of the ones I viewed. Too bad the balloon boy family take a cue from Adrian’s family and make videos that are for good and not evil.

So cute! Tell Husbandrinka I want a translation of that song. 🙂

Are you kidding? Because Husbandrinka did translate that song. Into English. I suggested that he waste more time translating it into Italian and perhaps Swahili, but he didn’t take me up on this excellent idea. I will post the translation shortly.

Ok. I’ll vote. I knew about that Berlin Wall thing, btw. My daughter was born that year (I’m not so much smart as OLD) and I somehow associate the two events. (If I were funny like you there is surely an awesome joke in there. )

Forget the free flight…I think your friend may have just won the Air France advertising account! Great video! As for which kid to take…maybe he’ll have you do a poll on your blog!
