Oh, Arizona

by Marinka on January 8, 2011

I write what I hope is the humor blog, but sometimes the world doesn’t play along.  Which is really insensitive of it, when you come to think of it.

Like when someone opens fire in a supermarket, shooting 18 people, and killing several , including a nine year old girl (a 9 year old girl, my god!)  the world crumbles, even if we are just looking on.  Sometimes I think that as parents, we take it in a little deeper. That having children makes us think the unthinkable.  But I’m sure it’s equally awful for everyone.

Well, not everyone.

(Full disclosure:  I tweeted that I don’t blame Sarah Palin for the murders.  And I was linked to what some of her supporters were saying.  Thanks to Molly and Katie for bringing it to my attention.)

I think it’s important that we all read what this er..person? has to say.

Because I thought we were all mourning.

And we’re not.

UPDATE: OH, FUCKING HELL.  Apparently, the person (!) I posted above was being sarcastic.  So, er..nevermind?

I don’t think it’s funny sarcasm – it’s lame sarcasm. People died; not funny. You’re so right – as a mom, my heart seriously beats so much harder when I read this kind of bullshit.

People are doing unthinkable and miserable stuff. Not too late to reread “Karamazov brothers”.

Sometimes sarcasm just doesn’t work in any sort of typeface. I didn’t read sarcasm in it either. Maybe he could work on that…

Random acts of madness are always hard to understand.
…but it usually has nothing to do with politics, terrorism or any issue. Those are the excuses. These people are broken and something, anything, can be the catalyst to set them off.
Mourning in Australia too.

Killing adults is bad enough. Killing children fills me with rage.
And sadness.

Um, sarcastic or not, I think it’s a completely inappropriate comment to be made right after such a tragic event.

You have no idea how against guns I am. It’s so heartbreaking, that the congresswoman was shot and that she’s clinging to life right now. It’s unbearable to think that an innocent, sweet 9 year old child was shot and killed today. It is beyond heartbreaking. So many lost lives. For nothing. I think we should just ban guns, for crying out loud.

What makes me particularly sad about this shooting is that this Congresswoman was doing the very thing her constituents needed her doing – listening to their concerns so that she could make their community a better and safer place to live.
