OMG. “Dance Moms” Is Back!

by Marinka on January 3, 2012

This post in sponsored by Lifetime. Although I am being compensated for it, the opinions are my own. As always.

You guys.

YOU GUYS.

You know how for the past few months Tuesdays have been like the worst night of the week, because the TV-viewing sucks?

Well, I have some fantastic news.   Dance Moms is back next Tuesday,  January 10th, on Lifetime. For its second season.

It’s no secret that I’m a huge reality TV fan. The Real Housewives, Khloe and Kim Do NYC, The Bachelor— I love them all.

But I love Dance Moms more.

Because it’s like Toddlers & Tiaras but with older girls that are talented and whose mothers don’t need to be subtitled.

I’m just saying.

And because I love the focus on moms.

Abby Lee Miller, a woman with a raspy voice and an iron fist, is the dance teacher.

But it’s not really about her, not even about the girls, adorable and talented as they may be.

It’s about the moms.

Oh, The Moms.

The Dance Moms who are there for every class, every performance, every road trip. Watching, gossiping, advocating for their daughters and screaming at Abby for her various misdeeds vis-a-vis their girls.

No question about it, Abby has a favorite student.  Melissa’s daughter Maddie. Everyone seems to love Maddie. Except for the other mothers who think that if their daughters received the same attention from Abby that Maddie has been enjoying, their daughters would be winning as well.

Are they right?

Who knows!

Personally, I think Maddie is adorable and a great dancer, but I can’t tell the difference in skill level between her and Chloe and Brooke and Nia. They all seem fantastic.

And exhausted. Because they practice for hours and hours.

But what’s interesting is to see the mothers advocate, argue, threaten to pull their girls out of Abby’s studio.

Because it’s impossible not to cheer for a mother that’s pulling for her kid, even as you want to tell her to stop living through your daughter, you had your chance, lady.  But you can’t, because you’re too busy washing down that popcorn with a Pinot Noir and waiting patiently for the next episode.

Season 2 premiers on Tuesday, January 10th at 9/8c. I can’t wait!

I got sucked into a marathon of this show this summer, and it just fascinated me. Mostly because those moms are so opposite of me.

And by opposite, I don’t mean that I won’t go to bat for my kids, because I will. I just don’t hover and watch every minute of their dance or climbing practices. And I would never dare walk in to the middle of a class to argue with a teacher in front of the students.

If part of your compensation from Lifetime is the opportunity to meet Abby Lee Miller or any of the Dance Moms, you had BETTER take me along!

My daughter and I never miss this show.

I loved this show! Had completely forgot it even existed until I read this post. Lifetime… paying Marinka to write this post for you was a success. You have added another viewer for season 2.

Well, shit. Maybe I shouldn’t have killed our TV set back in June and I could’ve watched this one! Also, I am myself one of those dance moms – just waiting for the casting call for Irish Dance Moms: The Series! (-;

When I read the title and disclaimer at the top, I thought you meant Lifetime Fitness and you were being compensated with a free dance/exercise class. I figured your blog had been hacked. 😉

As a huge fan of all of the real housewives I have to say I’m just not into these dance moms. They’re just a little too crazy. Not that Kim and Taylor aren’t crazy in their intoxicated ways, but they’re usually crazy away from their children.

Hold the blooming phone! My DVR recorded an episode of Dance Moms tonight at 8:00, and it says the original airdate is 1/5/12. That’s TODAY! I haven’t watched it yet (I have to wait for my daughter, and for some reason she’s doing her stupid homework), but is it possible that tonight’s episode is new? After you told everybody it’s not new until next week? If that’s the case, I hope that Lifetime can find it in their heart to forgive you.
