Planned

Go ahead, ask me.

Ask me what I’m doing this afternoon.

I’m getting fitted for a bra.

It’s true.

Because I saw a commercial where the woman was saying that her life has improved, while another woman asked her “did you lose weight? get a haircut?” and the answer was no, she got fitted for a bra.

I’m interested in improving my life, I decided to schedule an appointment as well.

And even though the appointment is not until later this afternoon, my life has already improved.

Best gay friend John offered to come with me and pose as my husband. “I can give them suggestions. Make my wife’s breasts bigger! And higher!” he said.

There was some confusion when I told papa. For some reason, he thought that I would get measured and then they’re sew the bra for me on the spot. “This seems like scam,” he said. But it’s free, papa. “In that case, maybe men should get measured for condom,” he said.

I’m super excited about this event. But, you know, I’m in my 40s. I can talk about bras and breasts and sex and not blush.

But not everyone can.

Planned Parenthood in New York is kicking off a “We’re Going to the Principal’s Office” campaign to empower parents to see their principals about getting sex ed into schools. Right now, sex education is not a requirement in NYC public schools, but we want to make sure that sex education is taught in every grade every year. Planned Parenthood asks that interested parents get in touch with them, and the parents will be sent materials to help them through the process.

If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Planned Parenthood.

Because watching Bristol Palin’s PSA announcement how you shouldn’t have premarital sex unless your family is super privileged just doesn’t cut it.

I love that you involve everyone in your life (including me!) in your bra fitting. Good luck!

And, yes to sex education in schools!

I, too, want to improve my life and get fitted for a bra, especially if it also comes with a free new bra.

GO sex education in schools!!!

Please live-tweet the fitting. Or have John do it, with commentary. Also, yay to sex education, because Mr. B’s grandma didn’t know how babies were made until she had one. And she went to medical school in the good ole’ USSR.

Once I’m done having children, I absolutely want to get fitted for a bra. Tim Gunn says it’s a must! And he would know b/c he has a terrible time finding bras that fit.

I once subbed for a sex-ed class about 25 years ago, and a girl asked me what was the upside of anal intercourse. I explained that for men it stimulated the prostate gland, and for women, if done right, it stimulated the clitoris and labia. No class I ever taught before or since was ever as interested in the lesson.

I, too, believe simple things like undergarments have the power to change the world. But then I have trouble locating the proper accoutrements. And those b*tches at Victoria’s Secret once shamed me in front of my husband by saying in a very superior and didactic tone, “Victoria’s Secret doesn’t carry size A.” And then I declared, “Well then Victoria’s Secret won’t be getting my business,” like they’d be really sad to see the commission walk out the door on a clearance rack bra and 5 for $20 underwear set.

My Grandmother was a staunch Planned Parenthood supporter. Nice shout out.

It’s really, really hard for a 13, 14, 15 year-old kid to understand that one instance of poor judgment can affect them for the REST of their LIVES. AIDS, herpes, hep C … they are real, people, and they are FOREVER. As a teacher who has monitored hallways full of train-wrecks waiting to happen, I think any program working to prevent this should be whole-heartedly supported.

And props to you for doing something to better yourself. Hope it’s as amazing an experience for you as it seems to be for others.

Townshop, women of NYC. Seriously. I am a 32 FF. I have no children. My boobs are trying to take over the city. Go to townshop. I love them madly. They look at you and know automatically what size you are. It’s amazing. They’re like… bra psychics.

Love the Palin bash, of course. Be careful of those free fittings, they’ll direct you to something that after wearing for 8 hours will feel like an iron maiden!

OMG, the Bristol Palin “PSA” makes me all but apoplectic, I hate it so much.

Hooray for sex ed in schools! My sister in law used to work at Planned Parenthood in NYC and that’s what she did–amazing and important work!

Please let us know how the bra fitting goes! These almost-40-year-old-boobs need some revamping and it would be great if a bra would do it because I am not a fan of the knives and the IVs and whatnot. Oh, or the pain.

You have to go to INTIMACY on madison (in the 90’s). It is life changing… good luck!

Please share the experience of bra fitting.
My sister went to Nordstrom recently for a professional free bra fitting and was told her boobs are much bigger than she thought they were. She also feels somewhat better now that they are being held up where they belong.

That Bristol Palin is making any PSA about pregnancy leaves me speechless.

Go Planned Parenthoon and Sex Ed in school. I might just make my local board of education go bonkers when I bring this topic up for discussion.

Here in NC we do teach sex ed! But only ABSTINANCE! Because that WORKS! You should see the number of pregnant girls at the local high school…

As for bra fittings, that is yeat another benefit to being small-busted! I can use egg cups!

I think the bra fitting would make an excellent vlog. I’m sure John would be happy to pose as husband AND camera man.

I hate bra shopping and hadn’t done it since before my daughter (so about 5 years–pathetic, I know). I don’t enjoy fittings, but I recently found the best bra ever (for me anyway) and in the right size even (sadly, with a smaller cup-size than before) and it has been life changing! I hope you like yours.

Also, that always bugged me about the McCain/Palin campaign (among a million other things) that they held Bristol up as some model–super priveleged is right.
