Roar

by Marinka on July 17, 2008

Last Saturday, I decided to make Roast Pork Loin. I do not cook often, or well, so when I commit to it, it’s a production where I am secluded in the kitchen and my family has to tiptoe around me because The Artist Is Working and one wrong move can set me off, and I will fly into an alcoholic rage, or chop off my ear or something equally cinematic.

A friend called to ask what we were doing for dinner and I said “Pork roast for the Shabbat.” Ok, so a friend didn’t call, but how else was I going to work in the “Pork for Shabbat” joke into my post? Why must you constantly undermine my humor?!

Anyway, after I was in pork roast preparation for a while, my daughter walked through the kitchen, glanced at the recipe (you know, the one that said “Roast Pork Loin”) and said, “Oh my GOD! EWWW! We’re having LION?” Yes, she is the one who doesn’t like to read for pleasure. Why do you ask?

It’s crazy when they start to read. My oldest two just finished kindergarten and can now read most everything. I forget sometimes that I shouldn’t let them read the computer over my shoulder to when I’m reading US magazine.

Did she eat the lion?

That first paragraph is priceless. I can’t even think of anything good to comment. Awesome.

We went to a Passover Seder when I was a kid and this little boy yelled at his mom “I WANT HAM.” It was hilarious.

WFB-lion would certainly make our dinners more exotic!

Madge-I don’t understand how people can spend so much time online. Honestly, I think this whole internet business is just a phase.

Mama Ginger Tree-*sob*. Who could have imagined that literacy came at such a high price?

Anymommy-Mmm…ham…also, the few times that my kids have been in church, they always sang the dreidel song.

You should have played up the lion angle!

Alice–you’re right, I missed the opportunity. “The mane course is served!”

That’s cute! I assumed that you were going to say that you’d dressed the meat up to resemble lion somehow (I made oven porcipines once so I guess t could be possible). Was all excited to see how you did that and if it’d be possible w/ something other than pork. I guess I’ll have to play around w/ the idea myself now 😀
