School Trouble!

by Marinka on November 1, 2010

Last week I looked at Young Ladrinka’s homework and almost had a nervous breakdown. Because it looked like it had been written by our beloved cat Nicki. If she didn’t have any thumbs. And was drunk.
“Is this your best work?” I asked, my voice not quite even.
“Yes!” Young Ladrinka replied, careful not to remove his eyes from the Pokemon YouTube video.

I felt confident that this was a problem that could only be resolved by murder, but Husbandrinka had another idea.

“Remember that comic book you drew?” He asked, referring to an earlier project. “That was such great work.”
“Well, duh,” Young Ladrinka responded. “I care about my comic book and I don’t care about my homework.”

I tell you, hearing him say that was like Percocet to my pain. Because there’s a reason! It’s not that he does a shitty job with his homework on purpose to drive me into an alcoholic coma, no. My boy just doesn’t care about the homework. Fantastic!

And then last week, I got this email from his teacher.

I like his teacher. I really, really like her. But.

Young Ladrinka did not do as well as he hoped on the last spelling quiz. He did very well on the first spelling quiz, so I think this second quiz may have been more challenging because he did not study as much as the first week. It’s not a cause for concern, just something to keep an eye on.

I don’t know. Do you think that that could be it? That he didn’t do as well on the latest quiz because he didn’t study as much? That seems a little “out there.”

Oh, I’m keeping an eye on him alright. A gimlet eye.

I’m a little concerned that his teacher didn’t proofread her email before she sent it. Obviously that’s a problem.

No wonder you’re having problems. The gimlets don’t go in your eye.

The teacher is obviously an antisemite. Keep an eye on Young Ladrinka, but keep an eye on HER too.

Spelling tests are the bane of my existence! Poor spelling drives me insane but I have one child who could not care less how she spells things. The same word can be spelled 6 different ways in one paper. I can’t begin to tell you how much we argue over the need to study for spelling tests! UGH!

Well, you can’t blame the kid for using mundane excuses, like “I dunno” and “the teacher hates me”. What else do you want?

The whole “didn’t study enough” thing seems very suspicious. Does she have any other ideas?
It’s all very confusing to me.

Well, at least she didn’t write and try to blame you for not pushing him hard enough or something. Which would have necessitated SEVERAL gimlets in compensation.

That teacher thinks she knows it all.

Keep an eye on her, I think.
