Tagline? What Tagline?

by Marinka on October 16, 2010

Have you noticed that unlike some of the fancier blogs this one doesn’t have a tagline? Well, it’s because I’m very poor and can’t afford one. Really, it’s a choice between a tagline and gin, so guess who wins?

If you guessed Not Marinka’s liver – Bingo!
But I’ve been going through some old files on my computer and found this list I made a few years ago of possible taglines.

It’s really hard to pick a favorite. Or the right anti-psychotic medication, for that matter.

Motherhood in NYC
because Drained in NYC is confusing
because Drained in NYC doesn’t make sense

Motherhood in NYC
exhausted all the time

Motherhood in NYC
it’s not just about the kids

Motherhood in NYC
Think locally, mother globally

Motherhood in NYC
Because Mommyhood in NYC is nauseating

Motherhood in NYC
Without a tagline since 2008
Taglineless since 2008

Motherhood in NYC
Now appearing in other cities as well

Motherhood in NYC
Who the fuck needs a tagline?

Go with the last one!

I don’t have one either. And if I don’t have one….no one can!

How about “I’m Right, You’re Wrong”?

When I was still living there, I might have said:

Motherhood in NYC
Thank God for Starbucks

(but I haven’t read enough to know if you even drink coffee).

Or you could say Thank God for the liquor stores, but that might not give quite the touch you’re looking for.

I insist you pick the last one since you obviously wrote it while drinking gin. So you can have your tagline and drink it too.

Tagline? Tagline? What the heck is that? I guess I don’t have one either because I never even knew it existed! You are so smart.

That could work as the tagline.

I swear to GOD I am going to kick your ass because now you have me wondering where in the world I would need a tagline… What are you talking about?!? Damnit.

Go with the last one. Buck the system.

I like
Motherhood in NYC
But if you’re childless in Detroit you can read it too.

We don’t need no stinking taglines.

I like how you’re Jewing your readers into coming up with one for you.
“Marinka: Outsourcing major life decisions since 2008”
And yes, I consider a tagline a major life decision.

Did you actually say “Jewing”? That’s offensive.

Marinka October 22, 2010 at 7:36 pm

I know, right? I’m so glad that you can see the anti-semitism that I have to deal with lately. Shabbat Shalom to you, my fellow Chosen.

You’ve had to deal with other anti-semitism in comments? That really sucks. I just started reading your blog and like it, but I am usually mostly a lurker on blogs. But I just had to call that commenter out on the “Jewing” comment. It’s truly offensive and obnoxious, and I wanted the commenter to know that I saw it and I’m not letting it go by. Check yourself, “Vicki.”

Wow — I just clicked on the link on Vicki’s name, and it jumps to her blog, whose tagline says she is Russian and Jewish. Very odd, then, that she would say “Jewing.” And in my opinion, still just as offensive coming from a Jew as from anyone else.

Marinka October 23, 2010 at 12:21 pm

Ok, I must clarify. Vicki is indeed a Jewess and so am I. A partial Jewess. And although I hate to speak for Vicki, I am certain that she meant it as a joke, a self-deprecating one, even.

I often joke about anti-semitism on my site. I realize that it’s not everyone’s cup of lox. But that’s my sense of humor. And Vicki’s.

Yes, I’m Jewish, and in my shtetl, Jewing is a compliment.

Marinka,
For some reason there’s nowhere to click on “Reply” under what you just said about Vicki’s comment being a joke. O.K. I didn’t get that before, but I will take your word for it. I still don’t think it’s funny — but I will stop talking about it now.

Also, loved your “cup of lox” imagery — now that’s funny!
