The Fresh Diet

by Marinka on March 14, 2012

Last month I was contacted by The Fresh Diet people and invited to eat all of their food. Or some of their food, I’m not really good on the fine print. The idea would be that I would try the food for a week and then share my experience on my blog.

Since there’s nothing I love more than eating and talking with my mouth full, it was an offer that I couldn’t pass up.

I shared the good news with Husbandrinka.

“Who’s going to eat the food?” he asked, getting out the fork and knife and tucking a napkin into his collar.

I told him that I was and he looked sad.

“If you give me some meals, I’ll write a review,” Papa offered. I think he must have read about that Olive Garden internet sensation reviewer and wanted to get in on the action. Get your own blog, Papa. And your own food.

So I went online and registered. And then I had to choose what I wanted to eat. For every day, you pick out breakfast, lunch and dinner and two snacks and two sides for dinner. I picked ahead for four days before I was overcome with exhaustion. And starvation.

For the one day that I picked a cheesecake and some other kind of dessert, I got a warning that I was getting a bit carb heavy. I appreciated the warning but not as much as I appreciated the “yeah, whatever, send it anyway” button that they had for me to click. It’s all about choice, baby.

Finally, the food arrived.

There were many Pros. First, the food arrived. Hello, as a mom who does 99.8% of the cooking, having meals prepared for me without every dish, plate, pan, pot and utensil in the kitchen being used was a thing that dreams are made of. And the meals were in plastic containers with super easy heating instructions. Most of the meals were also delicious. The quiche, the shepherd’s pie, the mozzarella wrap, the French Toast were all amazing. Like “I want the recipe for this”-type of amazing. Seriously, very good.

And I also liked that each container came with a “Marinka” label on it. I hoped that would settle any and all questions about who it belonged to.

The only Con for me was the portion size. I scanned the website over and over and couldn’t find the “supersize” button. Of course Mama pointed out that The Fresh Diet is absolutely right about portion control and I could learn a few things from them, but by that point I was too weak to listen. I definitely supplemented my meals.

I’m a work in progress.

Like Venus de Milo.

With arms.

So there’s that.

But what I really liked about it is that I often make meals for my family that I don’t particularly want to eat. My family is made up of carnivores and I like to have more fish. And other things that don’t blink and clog my arteries. So it was really nice to have single servings of vegetarian lasagna and halibut so that I didn’t have to eat what everyone else was having. Although my having different food did mean that I got some “if our food isn’t poisoned, why aren’t you eating it?!” questions.

If you’d like to check out the Fresh Diet, it’s super easy now. And if you will receive 3 days free with the purchase of a 31 day plan at $29.99 per day. (That’s three meals and two snacks a day!) The promo code is: semommar29.

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by The Fresh Diet. I also received a week’s supply of The Fresh Diet food to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own. Burp.

This sounds amazing! I want to try. I need portion control. And some carbs. I’m dying over here on Atkins (take 15!) and it’s only (sob!) day two. Mom 2.0 is my weight loss motivation…

So, lots of things about this sound very good. But $30 per day?!?! I can feed my family of four on that. In fact, I feed them on less than that — and it includes LOTS of fresh veggies and fruits too. Of course, I have to do the cooking and clean up, and that’s worth some real $$. But I’m not sure it’s worth that.

(You can just think of me as a cheap Midwestern curmudgeon if you like. I won’t be offended. It will be partly true.)

MommyTime – I read that too and thought holy god $30 * 365 days a year (average) = $10,950 bucks! That is chunk of change heck thats a small mortgage.

I am all about time saving but at what cost is it ok to say Hey I work so I can have food delivered haha

“You parents–if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?”

I just learned that my father used this proverb in reverse about 50 years ago….

I still do not have my own blog….did not get to taste the delicacy…

Observed minute portions of what appears to be moisturized cardboard painted as fish and meat in the labeled and translucent cvontainers.

The souses were presented in the containers suitable for the sperm donation.

Otherwise everything looked great.

I’m dying to do a food delivery program because I – like you – don’t eat the same food as my family. I’d love my own individually wrapped meals. But the cost is scary…

I totally want to do The Fresh Diet and write about it on my blog because I always dream of people coming by in cars and delivering cooked yummy meals to me. Do you hear that, Fresh Diet? I’m out here–here–here–here (that’s an echo, in case you were wondering).

Do they pick up all those plastic containers so they can recycle them? B/c that would be full service. I love cooking with no pots and pans.

I agree, this is entirely to pricey for a family. But I think, if I was single with no kids, this might be perfect.

I’m just putting a lock on my frig. That’s my non-scientific plan to eat less.

One of the Best product reviews I have ever read.

Not kissing up, b/c what for, right?

Anyway, you should make a living at this…companies are so dumb to not recognize this and get rid of all their magazine and TV commercials and not just have you.

They are so dumb.

I tried The Fresh Diet awhile back and was really impressed with it. I’m a single mom and my son is a picky eater so this plan saved me the headache of cooking two separate meals every night.

Kinda silly when you’re only serving two people right?

I agree that it is a little pricey but I’ve heard there are some Groupon, or Living Social deals floating around every once in awhile.

great review- esp considering I can’t even VIEW the Fresh Diet web site without giving them my info- NO THANKS! I’m a first time mom with a winter baby so exercise is hard to do right now- even just walking.

This sounds great but I could never spend that money- even if I could afford it. They should consider selling the recipies or having a mixed plan- they send you 2 meals and you do your own dinner or something. My problem with diets when I was working was finding appropriate lunches. Dinner I had time for healthy cooking and portion control isn’t a problem for me.
