Twitter, if you please

by Marinka on September 8, 2008

I am addicted to Twitter, the microblogging service. It’s over there, to your right. It’s like a chat that is limited to 140 characters per turn. It really makes you wish that your evangelical uncle was Twitterfied. And maybe some people that you work with. And most everyone else in the world. Maybe it’s the format, but Twitter seems to attract a lot of sharp witted people, so it’s fast, fun and funny. What else is there?

So, I read these people’s Twitters (that’s the point of Twitter, I’m not hacking into their accounts or anything). But every once in a while, someone will Twitter something and I want more. I want them to write a whole post about it.

Maggie, from Okay, Fine, Dammit did this perfectly. First she twitted this:

THERE IS A FUCKING BAT IN MY BEDROOM RIGHT NOW. DAVE NEEDS MY HELP BUT I MUST TWITTER THIS. (Do you think it’s Edward??) 09:56 PM September 03, 2008 from txt

And then she wrote a hysterical post about it. And then, as if I could adore her any more, she Twitted post-post (by which I mean après-post): The bats get the last laugh: all my Google ads are pushing funeral services. Nice. 08:28 PM September 04, 2008 from web

That is excellent Twitter etiquette and perfectly satisfies my Twitter/blog balance. Thank you, Maggie.

And yet not everyone has followed Maggie’s lead. Weird.

So, I am listing some tweets from favorite bloggers whose tweets I’ve loved, and who I wish would expand on the tweets and blog about them. It’s really the least that they can do.

ScaryMommy : Why are my boys like sorority girls with their periods? Is it necessary to always poop at the same time? Gross. 05:38 PM August 03, 2008 from web

MommyWants Vodka : A day devoted to encased meats is a good day indeed. 07:30 PM August 31, 2008 from web

Ingrid of Ice Cream is Nice Cream, which may be the best and the most true blog title ever: i’m sure that after 12 hours of writing i am now at the peak of brilliance. people would money for this sh*t. 😉 11:56 PM September 05, 2008 from web

Instamom : Hubs can’t remember if he told people to come over at 10:00 or 1:00. It’s 10. I’m unshowered in PJs. I might be filing for divorce, too. about 8 hours ago from web

Anymommy Family picture day today. Now I’m going to have a cavity filled without novacaine. You know, for fun. 06:27 PM August 19, 2008 from web

Big Piece of Cake Just found an old post it note on my desk that says “Dazzle.” What is that supposed to be? Like a “note to self – be dazzling today?” 09:28 AM August 20, 2008 from web

Don’t you want to read posts based on those tweets? And don’t you think that once those posts are written, I should get like 80% of the credit? Maybe they should be dedicated to me. Or have my name on the byline. Or the bloggers should just change their URL to something with Marinka in it? Just some ideas that I’m throwing out, here, people.

Oh, and don’t worry–I’ll have more soon. Twitter at your own risk!

I have often thought the same thing and cracked up at the same posts you mentioned. We must be stalking the same people. Twitter totally rocks.

So freaking funny. Maggie wins the prize though, the bat thing was priceless. And, being fair, Marinka is one of the best twitterers I follow. Snide sarcasm in 140 characters as an artform, I do not kid, follow her!! I go back and read your tweets that I miss. And I miss a lot, I don’t do that for just anyone.

Wait. Novel length twitter comment. Sad. And funny.

I don’t twitter (but I do have an account) but I do that with comments. I’ll comment on someone’s blog and then be inspired to write a post related to that comment.

But the reason I don’t Twitter: as it is I spend AT LEAST 2 hours a day in front of my computer. That’s reading blogs, writing posts, posting comments and checking email – oh and doing school work (but that’s secondary). If I Twittered, it would be 24 hours a day in front of the computer telling people all the stupid little things that I do. Nothing would get accomplished. The Slightly Cracked house would fall apart entirely.

And I’m not that quick witted.

They’re like haiku for the mathematically-challenged (who needs some 5-7-5 rule, anyway?).

I wish I had time. My life isn’t twitter-worthy, sadly. Or maybe it is and I’m just skeered of another addiction.

I. LOVE. TWITTER. And I agree, sometimes you just want to know more. People will be all, “House is burning down as we speak” and then a day goes by and they finally tweet again and they’re all, “Just picked up some milk.” WTF?

This list is hysterical. I’m gonna go follow all the ones that I’m not yet following.

It’s a disease. 😉

Ha! Thanks for the twitter love. Those are some gems you’ve got there 🙂

Feel free to steal the idea for a post– I’ve blogged way too much about shit!!!!

Before I leave my own comment – I have to repeat Wendy’s line “haiku for the mathematically-challenged”. That is brilliant! Wendy – you should totally twitter that (so you’d better get on twitter).

I have to confess that I am terrible at twitter. I find it a little overwhelming. In fact – I recently told someone that I’m kind of lame with Twitter and tend to feel like the foreign exchange student when I sign in – so many conversations going on and I don’t understand most of them.

Thanks for noticing my “dazzle post it” twitter though. Still have no idea what that was about…

The bat thing is fan-tas-tic… but they are all fantastic. 🙂

At first I didn’t “get” twitter, but then someone said something like, “Imagine you are in a crowded room. A party. You don’t know everyone and some people are just acquaintances. You say something. Anything. It might be funny, tragic or inane, and someone turns to you and smiles. And suddenly, you don’t feel so awkward any more.”

🙂

(thank you for your kind refer. it was written in the middle of a 24 hour write-a-thon and i was losing my mind a little.)

Hello. My name is Jim and I’m a twitter addict. I will not however, participate in any programs. Twitter is good for the soul. Come to think of it, perhaps I could twitter instead of going to church. I’ll ask the priest about that one.

Oh – and I forgot to say… I’ll definitely write a post about my “dazzle” post it note twitter. It may take a week or two for me to come up with something though since it has to – you know – dazzle. I’ll give you full credit.

I need to get better at Twitter. I’m not even getting all the tweets I should be getting. Because I follow all of those people too, and I would have remembered something about a bat.

My story ended up being totally uneventful (as I Twittered to you earlier).

I debated Twittering. So freakin’ glad I did. True good fun.

And I second AnyMommy…Marinka is a stellar Twitterer. Twitterer…now that’s just fun to say.

Twitter is one of those things I wish I did better… and could read more. Damn nosy bosses and not being able to leave things up on my computer!

See, now there are the people who twitter funny crap and people who twitter the color and consistency of their last pee break.

I don’t know where I fall, but I think I like your twitter people. Because seriously, hilarious.

I’ve got so much on my plate right now, I’ve forbidden myself from checking out Twitter.

However, not long after I read this post, I came across this Twitter song
and thought of you, who are obviously someone….

I love twitter! The networking is great. The convo is fun and it is challenging to say what you mean in 140 characters.

Rats. I’m going to have to work harder at my tweets, I guess.

There are definitely times I want to know more. BUT a lot of things I tweet because I don’t want to write a whole post about them, so I see it both ways.
