We’re All Different, and That’s Okay!

by Marinka on January 27, 2011

One of the things that I keep reminding my children about is that we are all different and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that! As a matter of fact, it’s something to celebrate.

For example, this past Monday night and I was wondering whether I should watch Gossip Girl and DVR The Bachelor or vice versa. I mean, The Bachelor is constant can’t miss excitement, but Serena has been so, so lost on Gossip Girl. Plus, everyone is so pretty. Well that applies to both shows, so no help there.

I turn to Husbandrinka with this moral dilemma and he sort of shrugs and tells me that he doesn’t give a shit because, and this is where I fear that he’s starting to sound a little Holier Than Thou, he will be at the local homeless shelter run by his Church (and by that I mean the church he attends, not The Church of Holy Husbandrinka, the Martyr of Marriage to Marinka) keeping the sleeping homeless company, but even if he weren’t, he wouldn’t be watching that dreck on TV.

Huh.

So immediately I call mama to discuss this Moral Dilemma and she says, “do not let him come home from shelter. Make him put all clothes in bag in hallway, because there are bedbugs.”

And we’re off to the races!

As in who will arrive first at the door of the local asylum?

But it doesn’t matter. Because we are all different. No matter when we get institutionalized.

I like mama. Also, Husbandrinka makes me feel bad about myself.
Which did you choose?

Yes, yes, this is true. But let’s stick to the importantly issue here – which show did you decide to watch?

The Bachelor. Because it’s reality TV and therefore almost like a documentary.

This is the new response that I will use when my husband smirks at me for watching Real Housewives.

Why is your life not a sitcom? Because THAT’S what I would be watching on TV! I mean that as a compliment. By the way, who would you like to see cast in the roles of Mama and Awesome Dude?

This: “and by that I mean the church he attends, not The Church of Holy Husbandrinka, the Martyr of Marriage to Marinka” absolutely made my day.

I think I like this depression-lite.

You have never been funnier, and I was able to sneak in a guest post when you were feeling most desperate.

Though I love you, I hope you take your time working through the downs of life right now.

And I say that with the most fullest heart of love for you.

And also because I don’t think I’ve read anything funnier than “Who will arrive first at the doors of the asylum.”

Just wonderful.

Not really wanting to worship Husbandrinka, or rather his church, b/c bedbugs freak me out.

I’m pretty sure the church of Holier Than Thou is a real thing. It HAS to be, right?

I hope you don’t have to make such a tough moral decision between RHOBH and some other show tonight. A loving God wouldn’t ask that of you.

I don’t want to alarm you, but when Italian-American men from NJ say they are going to be out all night “keeping the sleeping homeless company,” – and I think my friends from “The Jersey Shore” might back me up on this one – it think it might be code.

I just want to hear Papa’s take on all of this. Then I can go to bed happy. As a bedbug.

Of course we are all different. And while both shows are a true testament to that, I think Gossip Girl always wins. Because the Bachelor sometimes makes me want to fast-forward through some dates and blah blah moments, and that works better on DVR.

So your husband is a member of the ‘Holier than thou – church’ too? You have my sympathies.

Your mother and my mother would be gangbusters together. My mom still sleeps on the bed cover at motels. Gag.

I love that you watch trashy TV, too, because people always say to me, “You don’t seem the type to watch that show.” Well…folks…I am.

So funny Marinka!! As always (and despite the depression-lite).

I always say to my husband: “You’re driving me insane!!!!….And, apparently, it isn’t a very long drive!”

Is it too late to jump into The Bachelor? I can’t believe I missed the start of the new season. There is nothing better than trashy TV.

My husband only watches documentaries and tries to talk to me about world events. Shut it, McNeil-Lehrer, Kendra’s on.
