A Screeching Voice of the Year!

by Marinka on July 19, 2010

I can hardly believe it, but I’m one of BlogHer Voices of the Year (or, of the Century, as I like to call it)  and will get to read my masterpiece in front of a kazillion people as part of the BlogHer Community Keynote in NYC this August.  I’ve been on the phone with Pfizer all day, ordering a custom-made Xanax wheel that that I can gnaw on throughout the day in preparation. I’m mildly concerned that my Xanax buddy will need its own ticket to the conference, but maybe I can just roll it in.

I’m not sure how I got selected, but I assume that it was a combination of my backstabbing everyone I ever came across and the BlogHer goddesses making their selections based on looks and worth as a human being.  Come to think of it, I’m a little shocked that I haven’t been awarded all fifteen reading spots.  And yes, of course, I suspect anti-Semitism played a part in that oversight.

I have so many people to thank, including Stacey, who nominated me, but now that I’m one of the Voices of the Year, I really don’t have time for stuff like “gratitude” and “appreciation”.  Because I’m busy. I’m busy rehearsing my reading in front of the mirror in that endless quest to find my “good side”.  And I’m busy timing myself to  make sure that the reading is under four minutes, pursuant to the guidelines.  Which is fine, but no one will tell me how much time I should fold in for deafening applause and laughter and people throwing themselves on stage to get a little closer to me.   They’ll have security, right?

Seriously.  Seriously.  I’m so honored and flattered and completely terrified. Because there’s a reason that I’m a blogger and not a performance artist.  But I’m also thrilled and excited and I can’t believe that I’m in such amazing company.  There’s a part of me that sort of expects to get an email from BlogHer saying “sorry, we made a mistake!” but there’s a bigger part of me that knows that she’ll just mark that email “SPAM” and pretend that she never got it.

I can’t wait.

So ecstatic for you! Couldn’t happen to a nicer, funnier, or more physically attractive person.

What day are you speaking, Friday or Saturday?

Congratulations to you! Do you mind asking them to crank the volume on your microphone so I’ll be able to hear your address here in Iowa?

Whatever. I don’t even get a hyperlink in “such?” I’m so not holding your head over the toilet when nerves get the best of you.

OK, I guess I will, but I won’t brush your hair back.

Congratulations, and you are one of the BlogHer Voices, absolutely. You just are.

You’ll do beyond great..You are a very sincere, humble person, and that will come across. That’s what I like about you…you are not one to put yourself above others.

That, and your awesome blogging tips.

When I saw Xanax Buddy, I automatically assumed you meant ME, but then you said it was a wheel and that you might be rolling it into the conference. I’m clearly confused. Or already high as a kite.

Wheeee! I am so hoping that I do not have to go after you.

And it totally sucks more now that I chose to be fiscally responsible and am not going to be there.

I’m sure you’ll make sure there will be pictures and blogging of said event? Or I might have to combine a work trip in to NY with stalking you.

How did I miss this post? Oh – I know – I’ve been on Twitter all week and my reader exploded.

Better late than never. I wasn’t in the least bit surprised to see that you were speaking. You are one of the funniest women online – hands down! Wait – I think I actually wrote that about you earlier this week… So you can quote me on that!

Seriously – you will be great – can’t can’t wait to see it in person. I’ll put the bobble head in my car.
