Books I Loved in 2012

by Marinka on January 13, 2013

Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan surpassed me. It was our book group’s pick for January and although I knew that it had a mystery streak, I was not prepared for the humor. And there was plenty of humor. But the story is about a young man who gets a new job at Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore and soon realizes that the customers are people who are borrowing books from the part of the bookstore not accessible to the general public. Who are these people and what’s in those books? I found the reveal a bit of a letdown, but the journey (together with a peek inside the workings of Google!) is definitely worth it.
