A loving mother/daughter conversation.

Marinka:  You have an orthodontist appointment right after school, so you need to leave at 3 on the dot to meet me. Don’t linger, please.  Pretend you’re being shot out of a cannon.

13 year old daughter: Or I can just ask my teacher to leave five minutes early.

Marinka:  That is definitely another possibility, but I like the cannon imagery, so let’s go with that.

Leaving early is not an option, something very important is bound to be said during the 5 minutes she is absent.

Somehow it never occurs to me that my daughter can actually leave school early when it’s necessary!
