My Own Life

by Marinka on May 26, 2011

My 9 year old and I were coming home from his Little League game one Saturday when he shared his future plans with me.

“When I have my own life,” he said. “I’m definitely getting a dog.”

“What do you mean your own life? Whose life do you have now?”

“Like after college. When I’m working and earning my own money and living in my own place.”

“Where will you be living?”

“Probably in Queens. I’m going to be working for the Mets.”

“Well, if you’re going to be a baseball player you shouldn’t have a dog. Baseball players travel a lot, you know.”

“Um, hello? I’m not going to live alone. I’m going to have to get married.”

“Oh. Well, won’t your wife travel with you?”

“No. She’s going to have to walk the dog.”

Of course she is.

Hahahaha…that cracked me up. When I grow up and have MY own life, ice cream will have less calories than lettuce…and my kids will get off their asses.

That’ll probably never happen though…

Sure, what else are wives for?
My husband always wanted a dog and I opposed as it’s too much work. Now we have a newborn. I should’ve have settled for a puppy.

Cats are even easier. I left a 1.5 year old in charge of a 12 week old. No child protective service visit.

Sounds like young Ladrinka has it all worked out.

Where did he get that idea from though? 🙂

I’ll trade all these kids for a dog. Walking dogs is way easier than raising twins. Tell your son he’s got the right idea.

The sole purpose of marriage is that someone is always home to walk the dog. Of course.

My friend’s son told his friend that if he didn’t get married he was going to have to do his own laundry.

HA!

Heh. I take it the future Mrs isn’t going to have her own life. Good on 9 for being clear on what he wants.

He is a gem! All his wife will have to do is walk the dog, meanwhile I’m stuck cooking, cleaning and child rearing!

I love that he thinks he ‘has’ to get married. As though no options exist. But then there’s the dog so… duh!

Before reading this post I recieved phone call from “Mama”. Are you going to walk the dog when you came home?, was the question. Walk him yourself, was the answer.

You can call it genetic.

the wife ALWAYS walks the damn dog. That’s why I no longer have a dog.

In our case wife walks the dog and husband posts pictures of him on Facebook. Apparently it is called shared responsibility. He takes care of the dogs PR while I make sure he stays alive.

My 8 year old daughter is dying for a puppy (not a dog) Maybe I could tell her to wait until she’s older and she can walk the dog for her husband.

I’m so impressed with your son’s planning. My kids can’t get past the planning required to beg me for a hot dog after the game.

It’s good that he’s thought everything out…it sounds like a good plan. For everyone except maybe the wife. But he and the dog should be happy.

It’s adorable that he thinks his life will still be his own after he gets married.
