Suri Cruise: Having to Choose Between Heels and a Pacifier

by Marinka on March 9, 2011

The internet is going through a mini explosion right now, and this time it’s not Charlie Sheen’s fault. See, Suri Cruise, the adorable daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has been photographed with a pacifier in her mouth.

When I first saw it, I was outraged.  I mean, fourteen is way too old to be hanging around with a binky in your mouth.  (Except if you’re a rapper.  Please remind me to tell you about how a few rap people were hanging out not far from our building and one of them had a pacifier in his mouth and the then-5-year old Young Ladrinka walked by and said “that looks funny!” and the guy’s friends started laughing and agreeing, as though this was the first time someone realized that a grown person having a pacifier was kind of funny. Where funny means insane.)

But then I realized that Suri was 4, although some websites insist that she’s almost 5.  Gee, thanks for the spoiler.  Don’t tell me, 6 is next?

Apparently I thought she was older because she’s photographed in high heels a lot.  Which frankly bothers me more than a pacifier.  I mean, who knows, she may go into rap. (An aside:  OMG.  There are pacifiers for adults.  Some with paw print designs.  I’m assuming that there’s a medical condition that requires this, and not just batshit insanity.  I’m here to learn.)

But the high heels?  There’s just no good excuse for that. Especially since she already towers over her father.

So as much as I hate to pass up on opportunity to judge a celebrity’s parenting,  I’m in the Not Outraged camp over this one.

Thank goodness I can still judge others, though.

Want to look like Suri? No problem, now you can Get This Look!

Get this look? really?

I’m with you. The high heels and the no coat in winter bother me way more than the binky. Although I think four is too old, hey, I don’t have to fix her teeth, so I could care less.

honestly, i wonder why the hell anybody cares what that child does. On a serious note (i know, right?) my son had to use an orthodontic device to widen his palette because of a pacifier. On the plus side, he never needed braces so i saved money there.

that’s probably what they’re thinking of…the long term implications of braces and money. after all, he sucks now (Tom) and they have to live on the money he’s already earned.

I’m also in the Not Outraged camp. God, Internet, why do you fucking care?

(Um, sorry. I’m in a bit of a Mood today.)

AH, poor Suri. I agree that the heels bother me more. Her poor feet. 🙁 I think that if my 4yo still had her paci I’d be bothered by it, but I can get why it is soothing and poor lil Suri needs some sort of comfort in the whirlwind that is her life.

Don’t Scientologists believe that kids should be encouraged to make their own choices and they don’t say “no” to them? It’s something like that. Clearly, girlfriend didn’t want to give up that paci. Or perhaps they are smarter than us and a paci through the age of 6 is proven to reduce whining by 85%.

What I’m really interested in, is the juicy good reason they have for it.

Because, you know, that HAS got to be good.

I just don’t care about stuff like that either way anymore.
When I got pregnant with my first child, I thought I’d be one of those mom’s who took away the soother and the bottle cold turkey the day after my kid turned one.

He’s almost two and still refuses to use a sippy cup.

I am more concerned that she doesn’t have a clip in her hair to hold it back off of her face. I big wind could come and BAM her vision would be obscured. Tragic.

lol I love reading people’s comments 😀 Yeah, it’s all overkill… sure, men are still dying in Iraq, and the entire Middle East is experiencing a major political shift, but hey… what’s all that to celebrity babies and Crazy Sheen???

On a side note… there are some weirdo’s out there who get into some kinky baby stuff… (as I learned from the CSI episode King Baby -S. 5 Ep. 15)

The internet picks on Suri Cruise so often. The no coat, high heels, lipstick, etc. Its annoying. I think she looks cute in her “high” heels if that’s what you want to call them. They are like the exact same shoes that people their daughters in on Easter, so whats the big deal?

Sophie@Fabrications March 9, 2011 at 1:59 pm

I don’t know, I guess I’m a bit tired, but you got me thinking about dipping little juniorrette’s pacci in some booze (you know, for sterilization) and trying it myself, just so I can feel whatever she’s feeling. When she’s not in pain.

Has Suri had Botox? I’m almost sure she has… on a side note, her extensions look amazing! Almost real, even.

Maybe Suri signed some sort of contract with the pacifier. Like mother like daughter?

Leanne March 9, 2011 at 5:08 pm

Hmm. My biggest worry? It’ll be the new look. BUu if my sixteen year old starts walking around with a pacifier I’m outta here. Sigh.

March 9, 2011 at 5:33 pm

a while back, Katie issued an explanation in response to criticism over Suri wearing heels and said the heels are ballroom dancing shoes for kids. i guess that means they’re okay, right? maybe scientology kids use bottles and binkies up to a certain age. Leah Remini’s daughter was still using a bottle at age 4. Enjoy your evening, Marinka, and take care.

Bostulla March 9, 2011 at 7:59 pm

I think she’s adorable. Obviously the shoes belong to her father.
No big deal at that age. (binky and heels)

between the eventual orthodontia and podiatria that kid is gonna need (not to mention the psychiatria), it’s a good thing Tom C. makes all that money. But that is by way of an observation not a judgement, sez me who just put her 6 1/2 year old son to bed, with his binky, blankie, and a stuffed giraffe that he won in some PTA raffle or something. YES the kid still has a pacifier and NO he does not eat green vegetables and so yes, I fail, fail, fail. Sort of like Katie Holmes but with a lot less money. THAT was a judging statement, just fyi.

I bet if the kid had some consistency in her life and wasn’t jetsetting here there and everywhere, she wouldn’t need a paci anymore. or katie needs to grow some cajones and just take it away.

because i am the perfect mom and have all the perfect answers, of course.

the heels are insane, though!

March 9, 2011 at 9:56 pm

If I was her future orthodontist? I’d care in the way that would make me encourage the crap out of her keeping that binky plugged in til her incisors were done and all messed up. Since I’m not? Meh.

The heels wig me out, though. And the fact that she’s 1/2 Tom Cruise. That’s some messed up stuff right there.

Binky must go. Ugh. As for the heels, what size does she wear? I’ll take a 6 1/2 off her hands.

March 10, 2011 at 1:45 am

The binky should be taken away and the kid should be wearing tennis shoes but what do I know since I’m not wealthy like Tom and Katie.

I’m pretty sure that Mommy Shorts started a campaign to save Suri’s feet from those heels. I think she even created a button for people to place on their blogs…

Pacifier : whatever *shrugs shoulders the Franco-Belge way* .
High heels: *eybrows are raised in slightly judgemental manner, then shrugs in Franco-Belge way*

Rebecca March 10, 2011 at 9:04 am

I dont understand the outrage, she is 4…wait…almost 5, she will give up the binky when she is ready, whatever. Now the heels are a different story, if she was MY 4 year old she would not be wearing heels.

But I am not her parent so …I dont care.

Jane March 10, 2011 at 10:24 am

Just last night I saw some pants on the ground boys with PASSIES!
I was all WTF????
Good to know they are just copying Suri and it’s not some gang thang!

Rap people.

KC March 10, 2011 at 10:58 am

A couple of weeks ago my husband and I saw a guy with a pacifier. According to him people that are high on E like them for the oral sensation. Don’t know if thats true or not…

anymommy March 10, 2011 at 12:13 pm

Not outraged. Unless it’s soaked in vodka, then I’m outraged. And jealous. More importantly, let’s discuss that Katie looks like a regular old normal human being in that photograph. Yay.

dusty earth mother March 10, 2011 at 12:24 pm

Well, the last time I had dinner at the Cruise mansion, Suri told me that the paci soothes her in times of crisis. What? You don’t believe I know the Cruise family personally? But why else would I give a flying rat’s behind what Suri does with her teeth or feet?

Jesika Jennings March 10, 2011 at 3:34 pm

Yesterday I saw a fourteen year old girl, with a pacifier. I kid you not. I think it was on purpose.

The only thing that outrages me is that Suri is wearing a trench that I aspire to own one day.

Suri Cruise is weaved into so much of my writing because she’s like a modern day Elizabeth Taylor – total opulence. That paci is made of beluga.

‘towers over her father’ – HA!
