Double Header

by Marinka on October 24, 2009

I’m worried about my header.

What’s more, I’ve been worried about my header since last summer, but I haven’t wanted to worry you about it.  But I’m tired of bearing all the stress on my own, so here it goes.

See, last spring I wanted to spruce up my header and make it more New York and  fantastic.  And at around the same time, the super talented Suzanne designed a header that I loved for The Mouthy Housewives.  I asked Suzanne to design a header for me  and after we went back and forth some, I loved the idea of using the subway sign as the backdrop for the words Motherhood in NYC.  The problem was that the subway sign images that were in the public domain were not subway stations that I used and I didn’t want to endorse them. Because I am all about integrity.  So Suzanne suggested that I roam my neighborhood and take photographs of subway signs. Like an urban Ansel Adams. And I did.

And from this

Suzanne made my header.  It was love at first sight.

And then a few weeks later, I noticed something.  Something to the lower right of the 6.  I tried to enlarge the image but  I still couldn’t see it.

So one day, I headed back to Union Square to look at the sign.

Hmm, a sticker.  Fun!  A grown up holding hands with a child with a red line across like a No Smoking sign.  Interesting! Perhaps it’s to discourage parents from metaphorically  holding their children’s hand and not letting them make mistakes and learn through trial and error?  Thought provoking!

Wait, there’s a website!  There’s more to learn!

header4

Motherless dot com.

Aww, orphans.

What’s with the tagline Go ahead, she’s not watching, though?  Probably a warning to children to be alert because their mom can’t be constantly vigilant.  Good reminder to us all!

And then I went home and looked up the website.  Apparently, when your mother isn’t watching, it’s  an open invitation to s’odomize farm animals.

GOOD LORD.  There’s a sticker for a porn site on the header of my mommy blog.

Fantastic.

Disclaimer: Ok, I know that the sticker in the close-up looks closer to the 6 than it does in my header. I can’t explain it. It is the exact same subway station sign, though, so perhaps the sticker guerillas have gotten more bold? I should go back and check, they probably have the 6 all covered up now. Also, as far as I can tell from looking at that site, there are no farm animals. I don’t understand how that is my fault.

LOVE your header.. I’m assuming Suzanne used photoshop to create it for you. She can easily remove (cover) that sticker.

Yes, first I lose my integrity through Photoshop, and before long I’m doing the whole Munchhausen by blog and telling you about my fake pregnancy or something. Nice try, Tiffany. Nice try.

That’s just too perfect for words.

And, wait, you made the switch to WordPress? Just like that? No drama? No feed troubles? No missing site? Wow. I’m impressed.

I lost most of my comments from this year and some feedburner subscribers, but I am so relieved that I didn’t lose my entire blog that I’m okay with it. It’s a good thing that I don’t have that whole perfectionist thing going on.

It’s not the same sticker, at all. The one on your header has a lot more white in it.

You are absolutely right. Now I don’t know what’s going on. Am I just making this up? Who are these people placing similar yet different stickers on subway entrances?

I think I am too scared to go back and check.

Did your designer photoshop people into the final banner? Imagine *adding* people to the NYC landscape. Anyway, niiiiice.

I guess it’s the trials and the whatever’s of Motherhood in NYC.

I always knew you were a bad influence. I suppose I should stop letting my kids read your website now.

You should hire someone really tall to cover it up with Mr. Yuck stickers. Now that would be something to blog about.

So, this worries you WHY? I think the header, AND the sticker, are perfect for you. 🙂

You know, I have the comment crack hook-up for you, if you want it. I know how to correct that pesky WP comment transfer problem.

Not how I would have interpreted that sticker at all.

Thanks for not linking. 🙂

This is hilarious. And actually for a NYC Mommy blog not entirely inappropriate as something that could only happen in NYC, you know?

You are a Real Housewives fan, no? (Twitter reveals all) My daughter recently worked with the stylist guy on RHOA. I posted about it, sort of indirectly today. I wish I watched the show because it’s lost on me completely.

I think that secretly, subconsciously, you must be a big ol’ ho. A big ho who loves porn and wants to share that love with the world but is afraid to admit it for fear of the outcry from her public. That’s what I think.
