Moms. So Many Moms. A Million of Them.

by Marinka on February 9, 2012

I interrupt a week of whining about how my life is so hard, what with my son’s clashing wardrobe choices and my daughter not phoning me and the croissants jumping into my mouth whenever I stroll by (that post is still in drafts) to rant a little bit about a group of assholes, One Million Moms, who were protesting JC Penney’s decision to hire Ellen DeGeneres as their spokesperson.

Because Ellen is *gasp* gay and wants to make everyone in American gay and burn a few Bibles while she’s at it. And maybe the American flag too, but only if being gay doesn’t take up all her free time. It’s hard to juggle so many things at once, you know.

So I usually ignore shit like this because there are many insane people in the world and I can’t spend my croissant-eating time arguing with them all, but this week, Ellen DeGeneres called them out on their bullshit, and well, I love Ellen. Check it out if you missed it.

The great news is that JC Penney is standing by their decision to hire Ellen and I swear, I now think JC Penney is run by geniuses because that decision makes me want to shop at JC Penney and I didn’t even know that JC Penney still existed in post- 1970s America. And then people that I adore, Sweetney and Doug organized a Shop-In at JC Penney’s this Sunday, February 12th, and OMG, what a great idea. You can even buy a Valentine’s Day gift there for me if you like.

So please help spread the word!

Facebook page.

More info at Sweetney’s site.

Oh and another thing. You may know that this month I’m one of the community leaders at Million Moms Challenge–an organization formed to promote healthy mothers and babies around the world. Totally and completely unrelated to One Million Moms, but they’re getting slammed in the confusion. I’ve tried to convince them to change their organization name to Marinka and 999,999 Other Moms, but it’s not catching on. Yet.

So if you have an extra second, please stop by to support them, and like their Facebook page.

Thank you.

I loved Ellen’s response to the furor. I may even go look for a gift for you at JC Penney’s this weekend.

Oh good, thank you for clarifying. While it wasn’t worrying me enough to go do any research (yet) I found it difficult to believe you were writing for that craptastic organization, One Million Moms.

PS. I too love Ellen and possibly even more that she called them out on it. When she listed her values, I cheered at my desk with a “right on sistafriend” just as the boss man walked by.

“So I usually ignore shit like this because there are many insane people in the world and I can’t spend my croissant-eating time arguing with them all…”

That comic genius mixed with incredibly apt message right there is why I adore you. I thought Ellen’s response was the classiest thing I’ve seen in a long, long time. Love the shop-in.

Thank you for bringing my blood down from a steady boil. This kind of hatred is so distressing. I will join the JCP shop in – even if it means I will be wearing mom jeans or jeggings by Monday.

I agree completely. Especially with the name change for the Million Mom Challenge – I saw you were affiliated with them earlier today and thought, “Are you kidding me – there is NO WAY my mom-idol, Marinka, could possibly be affiliated with THEM!” Obviously, I was right (and you can feel free to use my “mom-idol” title when necessary – like when you need to prove a point to husbandrika or something like that. Just trying to help a sista out). Phew – so glad you (and Ellen!) called those biatches out on their idiocy.

And to think that if I hadn’t popped by here I wouldn’t have even known that I need to shop at Penney’s on Sunday.

See–you are more than just a pretty face.

Yeah the confusion between the names sucks. When I first heard about it I was confused until I realized it was a group of crazy people. According to Time they’re only 41,000 moms on Facebook. They should change their name “40,000 crazy moms under the sea”

Ellen rocks, you rock, JCPs socks rock and the rest of the few million moms agree. Never mind the haters. Signed: one of the 999.998 moms…

Not being American I had to go to the site of the Others to understand the commotion. I have read their testimionals, message etc. and for some strange reason I know have the urge to shop at JCPenney. Which is strange since I have never set foot in one of their stores.

I’m with you. I didn’t even know there was still a Penny’s. I’ll be stopping by this weekend for sure!

Thank you for clearing this up about million moms and a million moms b/c I heard they were getting slammed in the process.

So sad for them, to be confused with this group of a million moms which is only 40,000 on their FB page.

The croissants? They can’t resist my welcoming mouth either.

Love this post, love you, love Ellen. Clearly I’m a lesbian! Which means I will start shopping at JCPenney tomorrow. Maybe we should find a JCP and buy cool Charlotte Ronson dresses to wear to our beauty bash on Satruday?? xo

Bravo to Ellen and JCPenney for standing for values that I think we should all spend more time focusing on. Also to you, for supporting such a great cause – Million Moms Challenge.

I hadn’t bought anything at JC Penney since 1982, but today I went to their website and bought a really cute pair of cheap shoes out of solidarity to Ellen. These One Million Moms can bite my butt.
