It’s So Hard To Pick a Favorite Child

by Marinka on March 5, 2012

On Sunday I came back home from a grueling weekend of relaxing in Miami.

“How much did you miss me?” I asked my children. “On a scale of one to a million?”

“Two,” my teenage daughter said.

“Negative twenty,” Young Ladrinka piped in.

It’s so adorable when they learn their numbers.

At least teenage daughter stayed on the positive side of the scale

Don’t let that go to your head….they might be setting you up for something big.

But – did you win?

Young Ladrinka should get bonus points for creativity.

This is a clear sign that you did not stay away long enough. Remember that next time.

I’m so jealous of a Miami trip that you’re really only ringing in a -20 with me, too. Alright, two. TWO.

-2o out of a million isn’t so bad, it could have been much worse…

LOL Adorable! Well I haven’t been around much lately and I missed you a ‘seven’ – so did you bring me a present from your trip?

That’s not nice! You want my kids? My 3yo vaguely knows numbers to 100 so you have a pretty good chance there. My 12 month old will say anything you say (easy ‘million’) but she doesn’t sleep through the night. In fact last night she barely slept through the Bachelor.

Tsk, tsk, kids. Once they know how to wipe their own bottom you might just as wel be air to them…

Who cares about those ungrateful kiddos … I want to hear all about your weekend! Did you get to feeling better? Did you laugh so hard you needed a pad? What did you eat? Come on, spill!!!

I bet this was *before* you pulled out the sequined “Miami” visors and “Touch of Class” t-shirts, right?

Perhaps your mah jongg tiles can give you a hug and a kiss.

I missed you. Does that count?

I thought this was going to be about a recent blog survey I saw where one of the questions was which one of your children is your favorite.

Unless I totally missed something.

I love your blog. It reminds me so much of my family. Regarding the favorite child conundrum, when my mother was caught doing something nice for one of her seven children or allowing one of them to get out of emptying the dishwasher, the rest of us would loudly complain. “Why does she get to watch TV while I have to empty the dishwasher?” My mother would take a long drag of her cigarette and look us right in the eye and say calmly, “Well, she’s my favorite.” And when she had to take all of us to the grocery store with her she would tell us we’d get in lots of trouble if we asked her for anything in the store. Of course as soon as one of us saw the Hostess display, we’d ask for some and my mother would look around the store and say within earshot of every other shopper. “I’m not your mother.”
