Snowed In

by Marinka on December 26, 2010

We are in North Carolina, at my inlaws’, snowed the fuck in.

Winter Wonderland. Now in North Carolina

I love my inlaws and I love North Carolina, and I’m so filled with love in general that it’s hard not be excited and happy where ever I am! Which is great news because now instead of leaving in 23 hours and 12 minutes (i.e. Monday afternoon), we will be leaving in 8,666 hours and a million minutes (i.e. Thursday afternoon). But I’m not complaining. I have internet access, and good books and cable and food and wine. Oh, yeah, and my family. And I already warned my kids that if these Southerners aren’t going to come through with the road clearing, we’ll have to look into cannibalism, so eat up! And they’re like “oh, okay! Pass the bacon!”

Kids are so dumb.

You are sooooo not as settled as your claiming. Ever been stuck in the country for a week? Those books will be read in a day!
Can’t wait to read you post on Friday!!!!

We completely shut down when we get snow in the south. We’re all, “Oh! Pretty!” and then we hide inside our houses until it’s all gone. I bet the kids are pissed they got it when they’re out of school, so no snow days.

Snowed in with the in-laws? I think you’ll have other reasons for canabalism

Lynn MacDonald December 26, 2010 at 12:32 pm

Here in Michigan we call that a dusting.

Oh, wow – now you’ve got me wondering: what if someone had blogged the Donner Party?

Kelly December 26, 2010 at 6:15 pm

Just reading your post made me feel a bit claustrophobic. They’re calling for freezing rain here on Thursday so I’m sure everything will work out for you.

In Canada it’s common practice to invite a few extra relatives over during the holidays to….you know, make sure we make it through the storms…

Julie December 26, 2010 at 11:17 pm

I have been reading your blog for ages, yet never commented — until now. “Snowed the fuck in” slayed me as we just returned from the Ohio barren farmlands to the snow covered homeland of the Chicago burbs. “Tis the season! (At least I was able to kiss the in-laws good-bye right on schedule.)

I think being snowed in anywhere is fun, even if it’s with your inlaws. Enjoy that family! You know, enjoy as in “make memories with”, not enjoy as in “eat them”.

It’s a Christmas Miracle! It’s the Baby Jesus telling you to sell everything and move in with your in-laws!

And being an Italian-American from the east coast, here are some conversation starters in case you run out of them:

1. I love your lasagne, Momma-Mia-In-Law! It’s almost as good as the one my Grandmother in Russia used to make!

2. Well, thank God our President got out of town in time to take his Hawaiian vacation with Michelle and her friends! I’d rather my tax dollars be spent on that than on some stupid war!

3. So do you think the Pope was really a Nazi – or just a Nazi sympathizer?

Just text me if you need any others! You’re welcome!

Bostulla December 27, 2010 at 11:30 am

Great conversation starters! What could possibly go wrong?

What are you complaining about? We have been in the snow for a full two weeks now and quit frankly, now that christmas has come and gone, it is starting to loose it’s glamour.

Enjoy. Sounds like a nice break. Has to be better than being stuck in an apt all day for who knows how long!

I just ran into a neighbor, who rented a car and drove home from Chicago yesterday, because otherwise they weren’t going to be on a plane until Thursday. So, there’s that.

On the other hand, with books and wine, why go anywhere?

Ah, now I understand all the excitement over your flesh and blood baking.

here’s to you surviving the in-laws. i mean the snow. i mean the in-laws.

anymommy December 27, 2010 at 11:02 pm

Welcome to my world. Well, the snow, not the inlaws. Okay, you win, hope it melts quickly.

Loukia December 27, 2010 at 11:30 pm

I can’t believe so many parts of the US have had it worse than most parts of Canada this winter with all the snow! Holidays and snow = beautiful, at least to me, however, I am so OVER the cold. My 5 year old asked me today why we chose to live HERE and not in Florida, and why we have to go through all these winter months before summer comes again. SIGH. We are not winter lovers, let me jus say.
Hope you’re having a good time…. xoxo

I’m laughing at your post. We got out baby, we got out. We’re now in SC and hoping to be able to fly into NY at the end of the week.

December 29, 2010 at 11:56 pm

I, oh, my gosh.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard you swear before.

Please don’t lose your mind so fast.

Because, shit and fuck, but that would suck for us.

Gretchen December 30, 2010 at 1:10 am

Inappropriately, the phrases “he got a pretty mouth, don’t he?” and “squeal like a pig” came to my mind. I’m so sorry. Merry Christmas!
